Forget my first review. This place serves food with the freshest ingredients and the service is amazing. My first experience was just a fluke because I ordered the wrong thing, and I've had nothing but great experiences since! Must try: Homemade Fiocchetti. It's to die for because the pasta is fresh and it has three different types of cheese! You really can't go wrong with that. I would also suggest getting the buratta with tomato, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. It's really simple, but soooo good because all of the ingredients were probably picked/made that day. Also, listen to whatever specials are available because those are usually good too. I've been back with family members and am planning on going with the hubby for dinner one of these days. The owner is really nice and you can tell he loves what he does, which is really nice to see.

This is a hidden gem in San Fran. Tourist won't find this place easily if they stay in the tourist areas. We had a rental car during part of our trip and made our way here, on accident. If back in the Bay area I would go here again over being in the heart of the 1000s of tourist and mediocre food. Waitstaff was attentive and super friendly, place does get really busy during peak dining times. All of the food from the pasta to the appetizers (especially the different types of brushetta) are top notch. We ate so much we couldn't try one of the wonderful desserts we saw being set down at other tables. Those patrons looked to be in heaven. We will be back.

Awesome italian place with awesome staff. Many of the staff are born/raised in Italy so it's gotta be good... This place is a no frills establishment; hearty italian dishes that taste like grandma's kitchen (well what I would imagine it to be like at least...I'm not Italian). Plus: It's great to see a great italian place open on the west side of the city. I don't have to travel far to the east side of town and go through horrible parking to get good Italian.

I've been eyeing this place for awhile and my family and I decided to try Trattoria Da Vittorio for dinner. They've recently opened in the last year or so in the old Cafe For All Seasons spot, which is in the middle of West Portal. On a Sunday night, it was pretty busy but we were able to snag a table right away. Their menu consists of more southern Italian fare, which is a welcome change since many Italian restaurants specialize in more northern Italian dishes. I ordered the gnocchi with pomodoro sauce and it was pretty good. The gnocchi were light and fluffy, like they should be, and the sauce was amazing. My mom ordered the San Daniele pizza, which comes with prosciutto, arugula, tomatoes and mozzarella. It reminded me of pizza I had in Florence - thin and crispy. My sister had a bowl of their tomato soup and a Caesar salad, which I had a few bites of. If you like traditional Caesar salad, anchovies and all, you'll like this one. We each ordered one of their desserts; I had the apple tart which was just enough for one person. Aside from the tart, it came with some ice cream - definitely a good choice if you want something sweet but isn't huge portions. Service was very attentive and our food came out in a timely manner. They were really busy but still made sure to check in on us and make sure our food was okay. I think the only reason that would keep me from coming back is the fact that their food is a little pricey. However, this is a great option if you're in West Portal and want some traditional Italian food in a comfortable, family-friendly setting.

Have you ever been to a place where you weren't impressed by the main dishes, but liked the side dishes? That's how I feel about this place. The burrata cheese was fantastic, and so was the tiramisu at the end. But in-between was the lackluster lasagna that tasted like it was stuffed with bread crumbs. It was one of the weirdest, yet plainest tasting lasagnas I've ever had. Also, it was very unfresh, cold, and even though they attempted to heat it up, I know days old lasagna when I taste it, you know? And with tip and tax at $20 a slice for the lasagna alone, I was honestly hoping for something that would taste as fantastic as the burrata starter we had. But it didn't. The tiramisu was really good and fresh though. But man, that lasagna was an epic fail. I mean even Stouffer's would have been better. 3.5 stars rounded down to 3 stars due to the high price of the main entree that didn't taste very good.

This is NOT the place to go if you are gluten free. They say that they offer a gluten free pasta with whatever sauce you want, but basically what you are getting is boiled pasta with some smashed tomatoes dumped on top. No flavor, no effort, it's really almost an F U to you for ordering gluten free. The kicker is that they charge $14 for that gluten free pasta dish. A TOTAL rip off!!! I have no idea what you lucky gluten eaters get when you come here, but if gluten is problem for you, this place will just confirm that it sucks to be you (as it sucked to be gluten free me when i went.)

I had high hopes for Trattoria da Vittorio, but I left displeased and unwilling to return. Our server, Roberto, was awesome, very friendly and attentive. But the food was just okay and overpriced. The spaghetti and meatballs dish ($18) was good, but not outstanding. The tomato sauce was hardy, not too tart or sour, but a little watery. Spaghetti noodles were cooked nicely, al dente with a nice bite. Meatballs the size of ping pong balls were gigantic and tasty, but not stellar. And it was a little unsettling that they were still a little pink in the center. The lasagna with meat sauce ($17) had over five layers of lasagna noodles, but I felt like there wasn't enough meat and cheese filling between the noodles. There wasn't enough sauce either. Overall this dish was too heavy on the carbs and very dense. However, the burrata cheese and prosciutto bruschetta appetizer ($9) was probably the best of the night. The toasted sliced baguette was very crispy, a nice base for the rich cheese and salty meat. Overall, food was decent, but nothing too special or worth going across the city. Dishes are pricey but portion sizes are substantial enough for leftovers. I probably wouldn't revisit, as there are several other Italian restaurants in West Portal.

I've eaten here twice now and have gotten great service each time, despite it being crazy busy. West Portal is a cute neighborhood and this restaurant fits right in. It's perfect for a casual bite, date night or family dinner. The mushroom ravioli is amazing. The smooth cream sauce has so much flavor. I split the dish and wish i selfishly ordered a plate for myself. Carbonara comes with an over med egg on top (yum) ...plus, love fresh shaved cheese on every dish, making it even more decadent. Between the margherita pizza and prosciutto with mushrooms, i would have the simple margherita again. It's a great light crust and pizza overall with really fresh tasting ingredients. Why go to Olive Garden in Stonestown when Trattoria Da Vittorio is so close by!

My name is Tupac. I'm a 3 year old Red Nose Pit Bull / American Bull Dog mix. Our pack has been to the restaurant a few times, and I have to say Trattoria Da Vittorio has the BEST meatballs in The City. 5 paws up!!! By the way, the service is the best...from busers to waiters...top notch.

3 1/2 stars. Cute little Italian joint with a nice sized bar and sweet outdoor dining patio. Lovely decor. Good service. Decent food. I came into the restaurant really excited to try everything but left underwhelmed. Tried many menu items. Some items were better than others. I've been to Italy and had excellent carbonara there and in America. This one I thought to be just ok. It was served on the cold side which may have been the problem. However, I really loved the calamari and artichoke appetizer. Lightly breaded and fried well. The calamari was perfectly cooked and wasn't chewy. The breading could have been seasoned better but the two dipping sauces made up for it. One sauce was similar to a tartar sauce and other was a light citrus sauce. They worked well together and brought out the distinct flavors of the artichoke and calamari. I also enjoyed the chicken Milanese with eggplant. That was a winning entree. Would definitely order it again. The eggplant was excellent and complemented the chicken well. Was too full to try any desserts though they looked super yummy.

Took two of my sons and their friends for a large-table dinner in the West Portal area of San Francisco. The boys mostly had rigatoni di Calabrese and liked it very much. Plus, we had Caesar salad, fried calamari, Brussels sprouts crostini, Branzino (whitefish), fiocchetti, porcini ravioli, and an array of desserts, including one they offered for free. Service was strong, timely and excellent. The place was busy and "on a roar". We enjoyed ourselves very much and recommend this fine restaurant for a truly Italian cuisine experience. Note, they don't take reservations, but this was not a problem on a Saturday night. Enjoy!

4 star for this time food. I was about to go to the other restaurant but just realize they are not open till 4:30. So.. I gave this place one more try. Last time I order the bruchata and meatball pasta. It was bad. The meatball pasta was not good, very plain and dry, bruchata was not fresh, so pretty disappointed. Enough for the last time review. This time this place amazed me. Mixed seafood was pretty good, pasta was cooked to the perfection, the meat was juicy. My bf ordered Lobster ravioli (special of the day) and he liked it. Overall, I am happy with this time I come here.

Loved it again! So many authentic choices. My younger son ( 11) loved the fish special. I love the pasta. Something for everyone including pizza. Every dish is plentiful but not heavy. Plus, the service is over the top. You always feel like a special customer.

So tonight I went to this place for the fourth time with my family. The service is good. Period. The severs and bus boys were always attentive at the right time. The was great. Pretty authentic Italian food and I've been to Italy. Great atmosphere overall and this place has definitely become one of my favorite Italian places.

Perfect restaurant in West Portal neighborhood for groups to eat family style and try all the delicious food on the menu. Also good for dates with the homey and romantic vibe. The beginning ~ Burrata Bruschetta, the toast was crisp, the prosciutto as it should be and the Burrata perfect. The fried Calamari and artichokes served with a mint and olive oil dip -- oh yes it was good. Also loved the Caprese con Burrata, if you can't tell already say Burrata and it's a magic word for me!!! The entrées ~ What got me to this place was my craving for Carbonara, and boy was it delicious creamy but still light and very tasty. The Porcini Ravioli bread sopping perfection...next came the Pollo Milanese, crisp crust and fresh tomato sauce with just the right anoint meant of garlic and oil. The highlight of entrees this evening was the Braised Short Ribs -- oh my! Pizza ~ my favorite was the San Danielle which had prosciutto, wild arugula tomato and mozzarella and especially loved the thin light and flaky crust. Our group also shared the Margherita, a classic and always reliable to order. Desert ~ hold onto your chair arms for Nutellino Calzone. Yup, simply a treasure. A calzone filled with warm Nutella what a delicious idea and the presentation was amazing too. Also adored the tiramisu! I can't say anything more about how much I loved this place and recommend it to anyone wanting an impeccable Italian meal with a great ambiance. Solid five stars for me and my friends!

Mmm. Well, food is really like 3 stars. Ambience 4 - lighting is good, not too loud. Waiters get a 5 as they are mostly cute and Italian. So, it averages out to 4. Had a similar experience both times I went. Stick with the basics. Seriously, the food is really average. Avoid the seafood and pizza, stick with the pastas. Decent neighborhood restaurant and worth a visit if you're in the area.

I love this place. I typically order one of the specials but I have also had many things off their regular menu and usually I like them. I don't understand why they got rid of the boar ragout. What I love about this place is that it's like a little slice of Italy. When I go there, I feel like I'm back in Italy on vacation. It's loud, the waiters are friendly and don't pressure you to leave, which also means it is a little difficult to get the check sometimes and the food ranges from good to fabulous. Vittorio comes out and says hello and he recognizes you after you've been there once and suddenly you are a regular. I agree that the food is pricey for what you get, but good italian food is pricey and I feel that Vittorio's food deserves a higher price than the standard fare. You can't beat the atmosphere.

Perfect place to dine out with your family. The restaurant felt authentically Italian and their dishes were indeed delicious. I initially wanted a gnocchi and the server suggested I try out the handmade fiocchetti in pear Gorgonzola sauce. He said if I didn't like it, he'd replace it with what I did want. I initially hesitated but decided to go with it and ended up enjoying it. The pasta was fresh and sauce was deliciously creamy and blended well with the non-overpowering pear flavors. Service was friendly. We were seated near the front of the restaurant and they kept a good watch on our table. The owner checked in with us to ensure we were okay. Arrive early if you're planning dinner here. The place was filling up pretty fast and by the time we left a queue had accumulated outside.

Extremely friend staff, great food, and a relaxed environment. I've been there for dinner and lunch, enjoyed both. My favorites are Affettati Misti (can't go wrong with traditional Italian meat!!), Uovo pizza (thin crust, fresh, great combination of egg at the center surrounded by cheese and meat!!), and the house made gelato ice cream!!!

Victory. At brunch: Delicious smoked salmon and caramelized onion omelet. Egg whites at no extra charge. Just $11. Espresso given an extra jolt with a small dose of sugar. At lunch: Grilled chicken on homemade bread. Left off the cheese but there was plenty of flavor from the sautéed spinach. Salad on the side. Also $11. At dinner: Scialatielli (long spaghetti) with an impressive amount of seafood soaked in rich red sauce. Perhaps the best of all especially for a reasonable $19. During each visit the staff couldn't have been more friendly or welcoming. Space has a throwback West Portal charm. Good for first dates and five hundredth dates. Winner of four strong stars.

Hands down best service in a very long time. We had reservations for 13ppl for 730pm. We were told they do not accept reservations but will try their best to accomodate us. When I arrived, my cousins said that they were waiting for the big table inside to leave and this was at 715pm. About 730p rolled up, we were still waiting and the big table was taking care of their check. We didn't get seated until almost 8pm but we were in no hurry. Our server "Harry" (if anyone watches Mistresses, you'll know who I am talking about) ...I really don't remember his actual name, was very helpful in helping us order appetizers and drinks. We opted for a family style dinner so that everyone could have a taste of everything. The owner or restaurant manager greeted us with complimentary Prosecco because of the long wait. It was very sweet of them. The food was fantastic as well as the service. We were there for my cousin's 21st birthday and already had a cake for him but they still came out with complimentary tiramisu to make sure they ended our evening right. The ambiance, LOVE! The food, LOVE LOVE! The service, LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

This place serves up pretty authentic italian food. They were really packed that Sunday night, so we decided to sit outside with the gas lamps. It was pretty nice night out, so it didn't make a big difference. But they didn't check on us as frequently, especially near the end. But our food arrived quite promptly, one after another. My friend and I shared the fried calamari (it even has some fried artichokes), buratta cheese bruschetta, fiocchetti pasta, and a tiramisu for dessert. Everything tastes delicious and the portions filled us up pretty fast. We had to pack the rest in boxes for our scavengers at home. :) Overall, it was a lovely experience. I love how quaint West Portal can be.

This is a classy place, albeit too many birthdays were had for my liking. I opted for a simple Caprese salad, which came with Burrata and it was absolutely delicious. My friend got the Fiocchetti, which was the fanciest macaroni and cheese you could dream of. Part of being an adult is knowing how to order macaroni and cheese without explicitly saying it's macaroni and cheese. Very tasty. We got dessert after. I had the espresso and chocolate, which when the former is poured over the latter sounds very good in theory, but it's actually not the best combination. The service is really great and our server and bussers were very attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back.

What a treasure of a restaurant! Located on such a cute street, this is the place to go. The staff was on top of everything from filling our water glasses to supplying endless platters of bread and olive oil- yum! Mateo, our waiter, was amazing- the restaurant is lucky to have him. I cannot have dairy and he brought me sorbet on him, and a caramel ice cream for the rest of my family on the house. Can you say sweetheart?! It was our first time here and we will be sure to come back every time we are in the city. Go to this warm, inviting restaurant, you will not be disappointed!

Just had lunch over here for the first time and given the good reviews I saw my expectations sadly were high. There was a soccer game in the tv and the staff was paying more attention to that than us. We did not get the bread and olive oil that we saw in other tables to start with. We came with a kid and got a table for two where we hardly fit in. We ordered lasagna and porcini ravioli. While the second were ok (7 out of 10) the lasagna was a brick. We would definitely not go back.

Great restaurant. It is one of the best Italian spot in San Francisco. I've come around 7 times already, and it is definitely worth it! Pizza San Daniele is a must, as well as their antipasti combination and eggplant lasagna. Only negative point is that it is not consistent. It can be either exceptional or just good. However it is always far from being bad! This is definitely a must go for any Italian food lover, or any food lover in general. Big PRO: everyone there is Italian ;) Cheers,

My family and I were looking for an authentic Italian experience and stumbled upon this restaurant through Yelp. There was a 10-15 minute wait for dinner, but the host made a point to show us proper and welcoming attention. From the outset, one could sense two ongoing themes. Firstly, the staff held themselves to a very high standard of service. They were incredibly professional, helpful, and friendly. Secondly, the authenticity of the food was superb. We got several antipastas and main courses and everything was excellent both in taste and presentation. The only critique I will make is that the beer I had, a Sierra Nevada pale ale, tasted a bit funky but perhaps that's what I get for ordering one of the two beers among 100s of wine options.

I usually eat at the "other Italian neighborhood restaurant" and finally decided to give this new comer a try. I was not disappointed. The food was great and service was friendly. We ordered a bottle of wine, the calamari appetizer, a pizza and the lasagna. The calamari was nice and lightly battered. The pizza was a good thin crust (nice to see it coming fresh out of the pizza oven) and the lasagna was comforting. I found the portions quite healthy so bring a big appetite!

Service- 5 stars Food- 3 stars Dessert- 2 stars The details: service was great, attentive, friendly. Food sounded great and interesting on the menu, looked a bit small, but decent on the plate, but tasted mediocre. Beef short ribs with polenta were dry and both were bland. Spaghetti and meatballs- the meatballs were plain, and the sauce tasted straight out of the can. Dessert looked ok. The creme brulee cheesecake was the best tasting thing we got. It didn't have a candied sugar top, just tasted like vanilla bean, but was okay. The tiramisu had no alcohol in it, but instead the ladyfingers seemed soaked in water....maybe the cake had been frozen. Everything tasted like it was prepared a few days ago and frozen.

I came back to write another review because I had a very strong emotional reaction from the osso bucco. Eating it, I felt as if nothing else existed in the world except the plate and my mouth. My whole belly smiled. I am very respectful of those in the service industry and always treat my servers/bartenders like they are second-coming Jesus, but when the waiter came to ask if I was OK or needed anything else, I shot him a thumbs-up and continued to eat without making eye contact. It was the special, so if you are LUCKY ENOUGH to attend when this is available, do not be a fool. Order it. I took my mother here 3 days later while she was visiting. I am as carnivore as they come and not a huge fan of marinara sauce, yet I was truly jealous of her eggplant parmesan. I ordered the mushroom truffle ravioli which was also delicious but ooh that eggplant parm...has to be their best lunch dish. Nobody is saddened more than me by this, but the wild boar pasta is no longer a menu staple. I tried very hard to get to bottom of this and apparently a lot of people complained that they didn't like it. People are ignorant - if you want spaghetti bolognese don't order wild boar thinking it is similar enough and then have the audacity to call it GAMEY. Go to Olive Garden or better yet Sbarro's next time you tastebudless jerks!

A little bit of Italy in West Portal. Great food, great service, comfortable room. We had the sea bass and the crab meatballs and spaghetti entres which were both delicious. The caprese appetizer was different - the cheese was almost whipped, and delicious. Very good tiramisu and the Carmel gelato was outstanding. Surprisingly generous portions and reasonable prices. We went early dinner mid week and got right in. The staff accommodated us for a change of tables with ease and grace. All and all a delightful dining experience.

As I write this review, I am sadden that i will no longer be visiting any more restaurants for the next couple of months due to my diet, but i am glad that my last carb worthy place was here. I heard about this place because my friends brought some leftovers one night and had some of the pizza and i was really impressed especially for a left over. I randomly decided to come here during lunch with a friend. The restaurant starts of casual in front and starts to become more classier as you move to the back. The staff were real italians with real accents haha and super friendly. I ordered the homemade spaghetti with seafood and my friend order the pizza with egg. We also ordered meat and cheese bruschetta. The bruschetta was so good, using prosciutto and Barada cheese topped off with olive oil. The cheese was fresh and the bread texture was just right they also had a side of arugula as well My pasta was fresh, you can tell by the shape and texture. They used a little bit of a thicker shape a lot like udon but that was cool with me. The sauce was thick and flavorful - there was no watery sauce here. They had large shrimp, clams and fish as protein. One of the best pasta I've had next to Emmys. I only had a slice of the pizza, but i can tell that it had the same quality as something like Zero Zero, I personally wanted to try a red based sauce because he had a cream base sauce. Overall i really enjoyed myself here. Having the perfect balance of casual lunches and great dinner entrees. I will be back as soon as my diet allows it!

Solid choice for dining in this neighborhood. Very close to the Stonestown Galleria. You can't go wrong when your waiter sounds like "Luigi" in Lady & The Tramp. Having been to Roma, Italy in the past year, I can honestly say that this trattoria comes very close to the "real thing." I had the Osso Bucho special, wife had the Petrale Sole Picatta. We loved the calamari, and the service. I'd come back here, the next time we're shopping at the nearby mall.

This place is AMAZING!!!!! The service was awesome, the ambiance was perfect. The food was orgasmic. I ordered the Fiocchetti Handmade Pasta stuffed with 3 Italian cheese, pear in gorgonzola cream sauce. Its hands down the best pasta I have ever had. I have had this at one other restuarant but its rare to find at an italian so when i see it I gotta get it. The sweetness of the pear and the cheese together is AMAZING.

I wanted to like this place but it seems as if they might have had an off night. My wife and I both have dairy allergies and the staff was (for the most part) very accommodating with this. They even accommodated a special order of just pasta, veggies and chicken. Great. Unfortunately, both of our dishes were not seasoned on any level. Bland as can be. And the veal that I ordered was overcooked to the point that it had the texture of an end piece of roast beef. For $24, veal needs to be cooked correctly (which is not very long). And at the very least be seasoned. My wife's chicken was just as overcooked and they charged $18 for the dish. How does the same pasta dish with Italian sausage, bell peppers and tomatoes cost $5 less than one with chicken and steamed squash and carrots? Seriously? At the end of the evening they were kind enough to give us a complimentary Tiramasu. So, they accommodated our dairy allergies at dinner, and then they bring a dessert that they know that we can't eat. Good call, guys.

Really disappointing. The good: Homemade pasta The bad: I got the special crab and parpadelle - the pasta came stuck together like someone didn't know how to cook it. Seemed like a pasta dish put together with leftovers. My husband got the famous lasagna - he said it was like a big pile of dough. My favorite lasagnas thus far is probably la nebbia. Sauce was tasteless. My mom got the seafood pasta. Not impressed by seafood. However the bright spot was the pasta, had the texture of chewy udon. Atmosphere- loud, could not hear the person next to me talk. Sevice - mediocre at best, they tried to hurry us along and didn't fill our water glass. Don't know what the fuss is about. In terms of price it's like $$$ not $$. For the same price in neighborhood I prefer Bacco or Nebbia. I believe the reviews are from West Portal locals only. No reservations.

Italian food has become like American comfort food and has definitely become a staple for me. Trattoria has a great staff that provides excellent service. They're personable and always check up on you and ensures that your water and wine are filled (verrry important). All their food is simple yet tasty. Although Italian can be carb heavy, the food doesn't weigh you down, unless you eat too much. My favorites are the calamari (thinly breaded and not salty), burrata with cured meats (simple but fun to share), all their pizzas (good dough with quality ingredients), lasagna (tasted it and if you are a lasagna lover, it's hearty), seafood pasta (i love seafood), beef boneless shortribs w/ polenta (tasted it and it was tender). They have a vast selection of wine. You can come here with one person or five, young or old and it'll be a good time. Definitely has become my West Portal staple that I love.

Being new to the area, I depend on my few friends up here to introduce me to new areas within San Fran. Last night was West Portal and I loved it there. We had no place in mind for dinner so we decided to walk around the area and see what calls out to us...well, that and my handy yelp app which helped to suade us. The 4.5 average star rating at Trattoria Da Vittorio got my curiosity going so we walked by and loved the ambiance and we all agreed immediately if the wait wasn't long, it was meant to be. We were there last night around 8:30pm (Thursday) and got seated at the bar within 10 minutes The wait would have been much longer for a tabletop but we were starving. The first thing that stood out was that all the workers were Italian. BIG PLUS. At first the smell of the restaurant bothered me and my friend said it was the yeast for the bread. 2nd BIG PLUS. I love freshly made food. Now what to order?!? Everything on the menu sounded incredible. With it being October, there were a few pumpkin inspired dishes such as their risotto and soup. But, i wasn't feeling it. I scrolled through the pictures on yelp and their homemade pasta looked good, I decided on the seafood pasta dish (Handmade Scialatielli pasta Pescatora with fresh mix seafood in a tomato sauce for $19) My friends had the Lasagna and the Spaghetti with Meatball. Though I enjoyed my seafood pasta dish, it was a little too fishy for me but hey, it's what I ordered. The Lasagna was my favorite, if ever am I craving a Lasagna, I'm heading to this place. The meatballs that came with the spaghetti ranks up as one of my faves. -Seafood Pasta - 4 star -Spaghetti with Meatball - 4 star -Lasagna - 5 star Oh, I forgot to mention we started with the Calamari which was legitimate. Their mint dipping sauce wasn't my favorite. i preferred the other sauce but wished the regular marinara was provided. When I go to an Italian place with legitimate food, I always order dessert. We were torn on what to get. Of course Tiramisu is always the go-to dish but the Homemade Profiterole (cream puff filled with ice cream instead of whipped cream) looked so interesting. We asked the server about the 2 options but we decided to play it safe and get the Tiramisu. Well...to our surprise he brought u the Profiterole for us to try (on the house) which brought a smile to all our faces. These guys are 4.5 stars on Yelp for a reason! Nice! Both desserts were excellent, I can't decide which I enjoyed more, they were very different and both will not disappoint. At the end of our night, the bill was $100 for 3 people. The portions were super generous so we had 3 boxes of food to go. 1/2 of 2 entrees and 1/3 of the appetizer so I feel their pricing was very good. The food quality is excellent but the standout for this place is the wonderful service. Note that this is a true Italian establishment where you eat a nice and slow dinner. So service may seen slow but in actuality, this is how it is meant to be. This is not a place to rush a meal, rather this is a great place to catch up with friends and spend a good few hours mingling and enjoying great Italian cuisine/wine.

I love West Portal, and i am so close. I also Love pizza so after seeing all the pictures and reviews i gave this place a try. Came with a Party of 3,and there was a line and it was a cold Friday night. Waited 20 minutes after being quoted 10-15. All good because the service rocks. Not sure if it was the owner or manager but he came and gave us drink orders such as wine, and even some comp champagne for the ladies. Someone was giving out fresh baked bread as well. After being seated we ordered bruschetta borada which was awesome. The regular served bread was ok, but we did receive vinegar late. We ordered the lasagna, pizza, and another pasta dish. I loved my pizza and the mozzarella was awesome. I did try the lasagna which was super heavy and tasty, enough for two. We even got a nice small desert on the house. Maybe because we had to wait? maybe cause the service was just great. Good food, good service.

Veal Scaloppini, mushrooms, marsala wine, seasonal vegetables and potatoes $24. Flavor was great but disappointed in portion 2 small thin slice, I had better portion in North Beach...my shoe sole was large than this portion. I'm petite size woman; still left hungry....not a hungry man plate. Don't waste your money on this one, men.

I recently moved into this area about 4 months ago, and I'm glad to say that I have found my go-to restaurant. The ambience is lovely, and the staff are incredible. Each time that I have come in here with friends, the staff welcomes us and gives us impeccable service. They really make you feel like family! Niccolo was my server each time, and I must say that his hospitality is what keeps me coming in with new people. The staff is excellent, and the chef is beyond talented. This is the type of restaurant where you can take your time, enjoy a meal, enjoy your company, and not feel rushed. They care about your experience more than turning over tables. I'm definitely a loyal customer, and will be returning soon. I can't wait to try new items on the menu! Thank you for the hospitality, Trattoria Da Vittorio! For appetizers: -I've only had their calamari and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was crispy, and I loved that there were artichoke hearts tossed in. The dipping sauces that accompanied the dish complimented it very well. For their entrees, I have tried: -Truffle mushroom ravioli, and it was PHENOMENAL. All of the flavors were on point. -A bite of their housemade creamy gnocchi. It literally melts in your mouth. -Mama's traditional lasagna. Let me tell you, they do not skimp out on anything. The quality of all their dishes are top notch. -A bite of their seafood pasta, which had amazing flavors and great use of fresh ingredients which is especially important when it comes to seafood IMO. For their dessert -Seasalt caramel gelato. This has become one of my favorite and top-rated desserts. You must try it when you come in and dine. - Traditional tiramisu. Every time I go to an italian restaurant, I always have to try their tiramisu. The tiramisu here is nothing short of amazing -- one of the best I've had in awhile. You really can't go wrong with this one. *** Can't decide between the two? GET BOTH! You won't regret it.

It's funny when my Italian friend came to sf for visit, all he asked for is Italian food. What? Really? So I just show him a list of restaurants on yelp and he scanned though the list of highly rated italian restaurants nearby. A lot of them he said are not authentic just based on how they name their restaurants. (I was being skeptical as I thought you can never tell the quality of food by the names of the restaurants) Trattoria Da Vittorio was his final decision, and he's right! It's owned by real italian. Vittorio is super nice and my friend had a wonderful time chatting with him. The pizza is delectable!!! and I don't even remember the name of it. As you know my friend ordered everything for us. Thin crust, with very fresh and high quality mozzarella... and salumi on top..... so yummm... For dessert we had the tiramisu with a small cup of espresso. The tiramisu is a must I would say... a nice finish of the meal. Highly recommend this place! :)

I'm torn. The first time I ordered lasagna and it was mind-blowing. Our server was super nice and helpful, so overall fantastic experience. I came back again and my experience was the opposite. Our server was inattentive and I didn't enjoy what I ordered. They use kielbasa in their sausage and rigatoni dish. This surprised me. I would expect a sweet or hot italian sausage. It was gross and keeps me from coming back any time soon.

Okay, I didn't think the little "local Italian pizza place" would win my 5 star heart. Well, it did! I went on a crowded Friday night and was treated with nothing but open arms and open heart (so Italian). They were so kind and attentive, that the wait didn't even phase me. To help time pass, I ordered a glass of wine, which was delivered promptly, and then I huddled by an outdoor heat lamp. Time flew, and next thing I knew, we were seated. At first I thought everyone was pretending to have Italian accents, but turns out much of the staff is just studying abroad or trying to improve their English. The wine by the glass comes in healthy pours at healthy prices, and everything just feels fun and happy. My husband and I split the Arugula and beet salad (I'm a sucker of all things with beets), and it was perfectly dressed with a light lemon dressing. No soggy lettuce leaves here! The pizza crust was perfectly thin and yummy (not cracker thin, but close), and nothing felt too greasy or heavy (and we had the sausage pizza). They sent us home with a "special treat for later", which turned out to be a little slice of Tiramisu. Yum. I don't even like desserts, but when a cute Italian waiter sends you home with one, you must indulge... you owe it to his country, right? My husband and I have been living in outer Parkside for almost 2 years now, and we've slowly been making our way down all the restaurants on the West Portal strip. I'm sad it's taken us this long to hit this one. Had we found it earlier, we may have saved ourselves some more mediocre experiences and made this location a staple long ago! We'll be back soon!

Came for dinner again while my mom was in town. She kept raving about their stacked high pepperoni pizza but this restaurant was one let down after the other! Our quoted 35 minute wait turned into 60 minutes while we watched at least 8 tables who arrived after us get seated before us. The hostess kept saying she was waiting for this family to clear out and the table would be ours AND THANK GOD the manager or whoever seated us shortly after because that family never left! We would've been waiting for an additional 35 minutes+ Ridiculous. The busboy was on point and even reminded someone when he noticed our appetizers never came. When they finally did, the waiter dropped two of our broccoli rage bruschetta and said he would come back with more. I wish he hadn't since it was fucking disgusting! Literally the worst bruschetta no wait literally one of the worst foods in general I've ever ordered in a restaurant. The bruschetta was a joke. The eggplant parmesan was massive and way overpriced. The pizza was good but it was maybe 1/3 of the amount of pepperoni we got the first time we were here (read: inconsistent). At one point they dimmed the lighting for some mood lighting BUT IT WAS WAY TOO DARK. wtf. get your shit together. This place is dead to me.

Just ordered from here for the first time. Spaghetti was very nice; good robust flavor to the meatballs. However. The lasagna was very salty. It was pretty disappointing because it looked wonderful.

Oh wow this place is an amazing addition to West Portal. They are hands down the best Italian spot in the whole Sunset area. It kind of makes me sad for the other Italian spots in West Portal that have been there forever and that will inevitably lose a ton of business to these people. Then again I am so happy this place exists and I guarantee that I'll be back again and again. I'll basically give you the three high points of our dinner. 1) Service was exceptional. The waiter for super attentive, personable, and went into great detail about the dishes we wanted. 2) The price per quality is possibly the best deal in the city. I had a $20 dollar entrée that was out of this world great. 3) The veal scaloppini and mushrooms entrée was the best meal I've had all year. I let everyone at the table try a little bite and we all agreed WOW. Gratzi

I love this place. I bring all my out of town guests here when they visit. West Portal is such a cute neighborhood. This restaurant also has a patio and is worth the wait if there ever is one. Walking distance from MUNI and a ton of street parking. I usually end up getting their special of the night. A few recent dishes have been a grilled white fish with asparagus, Shrimp with risotto, and I believe a pumpkin ravioli. I have ALWAYS enjoyed every meal. There has never been one complaint from anyone at the table. The staff is so nice and they almost all have an Italian accent. This is REAL ITALIAN!!!!

I have eaten here two times each time the food and service was exceptional, pizza, dinner specials and menu items all were prepared with the most careful attention to detail, polenta, mashed potatoes eggplant, chicken, fish, beef & calamari, Yum... man... so many good things to chose from no wonder there are so many birthday celebrations here and its so crowded, the staff goes full on if you come in for birthday so highly recommend that. The restaurant is a bit loud however it really adds to the excitement to the dining experience so make a reservation and a memory soon.

We haven't had as good of a meal as the one here, in quite some time. As always, the classic demands of an excellent dining experience are: service, satisfying food, and welcoming surroundings. The restaurant hits on all three aspects, in spades. There are no reservations to be made, so be prepared to wait, or come in earlier and then go see a movie down the street. We had the veal scaloppine, lamb shank, homemade pappardelle and eggplant&chicken parm. Everything came out on time and as ordered. Our sever was professional, friendly and attentive - an increasingly difficult skill set to find. The restaurant owner checked in with us toward the end and we were treated to an extra dessert and extra helping of the tiramisu, which was very light and delightful! Bonus - the wine list is excellent, and even better, the pricing was extremely good. We'll be back. It's definitely in our top 5 dining experiences this year.

There's fresh... Pappardelli... Gnocchi... Scialatielli... There's homemade... Tomato sauces... Meatballs... Eggplant Parmigiana... COME N GET IT!!! Sweety and I came here Sunday evening for dinner. Generally, the parking in this area sucks because 1. Its West Portal. 2. Everyone eats out or is watching a movie. 3. Its Sunday. Luckily, we found someone leaving their parking spot, so we nabbed it. When we came into the restaurant, it was already bustling with people eating dinner and having a good time. We decided it would be best to sit at the counter instead of waiting an hour for a table. SCORE! We were seated within the first five minutes next to a column. I think its better to sit at the counter with my sweety, since being at a table divides us farther apart. Who agrees with me?! Being at the counter at Trattoria Da Vittorio is amazing because we could observe how the restaurant functions. This restaurant has an open aired kitchen where people at the counter could observe the kitchen staff working while the wait staff run around delivering piping hot savory meals to our tables. I ordered the Handmade Scialatielli pasta Pescatora with fresh mix seafood in a tomato sauce. The melding of the spices and sweet tomatoes in the sauce combined with the saltiness from the mollusks created an explosion of flavor in my mouth as I devoured my food. If I added Parmesan cheese to this delicate dish, it would have changed my palate and this review. Taking a sip of wine in between bites helped amplify the flavor of my food and the atmosphere (or, maybe because I may have been getting buzzed too). I didn't know what wine went well with this dish, so I asked the server to recommend one that was smooth, had a good fragrance, and full bodied; I had a Pinot Noir (Meiomi California 2011). I'm glad our server helped me pick a wine, otherwise I may have ordered one which could have destroyed the my appetite! Sweety had the Pappardelle con cinghiale wild boar ragu. Amazingly, she devoured her food in a blink of an eye. Must have been that tasty?! We sampled each others dishes and both were delicious! Pappardelle pasta were like thin ribbons wrapped around my fork which skewered a piece of wild boar. Wild boar was well marinated and cooked thoroughly. It was a bit gamey tasting, but hey, it was to be expected right? The evening winded down with dessert. We shared a Tiramisu and a Nutellino (a homemade calzone stuffed with nutella chocolate). Nutellino was really good because of the oozing magma hot nutella chocolate and the light fluffy crust of the calzone. Loved it! However, the Tiramisu was mediocre because it looked like it was hastily made. It fell apart too quickly. Could be the batch or something. Either way, it was tasty and ended up like everything else in my tummy. Seriously, I think I became a fatass in evening. BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT! Ah, now the SERVICE. Service was.. was... SERVICE WAS AWESOME! Our servers were quick with catering to our customerly requests (knowledge of wines, dessert menu, bill). From the kitchen, we had some interaction with the head chef and the general manager too. I sometimes have this clueless look or bored expression on my face when I'm digesting. I guess my expression attracted the owner very quickly. He was directing his chef with something right across from me in the kitchen and upon looking up, he noticed me drifting off into space. Thanks for the service Mr. D'Urzo, much appreciated! CONCLUSION: This is probably my 5th or 6th time coming here and I always seem to forget to review it until NOW! I highly recommend this place for a small family/friend get together or for a date. The atmosphere is very intimate since the lights in here are often dimmed to provide that cozy romantic setting. The wait staff and kitchen staff speak very fluent Italian and Spanish. You can distinguish the kitchen staff pretty well as the Hispanics are either line cooks or dish washers who wear black, while the sous chef and executive chef wear white. I think the food is top notch, fresh and very flavorful. Will come again in the future. Bon Appétit!

Fantastic! What a gem of a find! Service was outstanding, Calamari & Bruschetta were special and the main courses were fabulous. Atmosphere is casual, waitstaff is authentic.... Real Italians serving some very high caliber food. The Carmel & Sea salt Gelato was unreal. It blew away the tiramisu, which I would normally say was great. I want to bring my father & Grandfather here as they would appreciate it!

The hours on yelp isn't right. It says they close at 10pm. I arrived at 8:50pm on a Sunday and my boyfriend and I was turned away. The workers were apparently on a ladder doing something on the front door and didn't want to let us in. Regardless if they closed at 9pm or 10pm as listed on yelp, we should have still been served. Oh wells I won't be coming back since the most important thing in enjoying Italian food is hospitality and I sure didn't feel it here.

WOW! Thanks Vit ! You made our lunch even better than our high expectations about Trattoria Da Vittorio. I found out about Trattoria from my brother not long ago and we decided to give it a try by bringing anthers friend to try it out. We got seated on the first round seating at lunch time with their best seat in the house., the table by the window. Our server was wonderful greeting us in Italian and make us feel welcome Thanks Trattoria crew you make us felt like home and we will be back again very soon bringing our two kids to share the experience.

Extremely attentive service! We came here for dessert, and my sister's in-laws come here often and I can see why! Vittorio and the waiters were SO attentive to EVERYONE in the restaurant! We did not feel neglected at all! Vittorio took our order personally. Then our waiter came up to ask if there is anything else we wanted, about 2 minutes after Vittorio took our order. Then, the best thing happened! My sister and I were discussing that we should get the Nutella Panini or the Tiramisu, and decided that we should get the Nutella thingy. The waiter brought us both, free of charge for the Tiramisu! I guess he either overheard us discussing this, or he said that he brought it, because he thought that it was the best dessert at the restaurant. Then, I kid you not, 3 people asked my sister if she would like more coffee! I don't think service has EVER been this good in Nor Cal. Anyway, absolutely amazing service! Oh, and the Tiramisu was absolutely fantastic!!!

Good food. Good Pricing. Decent service. a little rush. We came here on a Sunday evening in a big group of 12. Our reservation started at 5.30pm. We could tell that they tried to have us finish "on time" such that they could have a second round of customers. Food all came pretty fast with good quality. We did enjoy the food and they were in big portion. Servers were friendly. One thing to note that you would not feel like sitting there a little longer to chit chat since the waiters take off your plates soon after you stop eating your appetizers or ask you if you want to pack your unfinished food into a box when you stop eating and start chatting. However, it's a very popular place in the city, so we all understood. =)

I guess I tried the wrong things on the menu. Caprese was very good although the tomatoes were a bit too green, but burrata was excellent!! On the other end the server recommended the chicken panini, what a disappointment!!!!! bland no seasoning at all, perfect if you are on a diet and need lightly seared chicken in EVO, with sautéed spinach . I like the idea of the pizza bread , the portions are huge and the side salad is as well. Took my good to go bc I felt bad retuning it. I can't talk about desserts but they seem appetizing The server was pleasant, here when needed. Cute Italian accent and vey polite. I came here at late lunch so room only had 2 tables. It seems like a neighborhood gem. It's worth giving a try I guess.

This is one of my favorite Italian places around West Portal area, I've taken my family and friends and they've all loved it! The complimentary bread appetizer with olive oil and vinegar is always a plus..especially when I'm hangry and waiting for the delicious food to arrive. Their pizzas are not to be missed- the Bella (burrata, prosciutto, arugula, eggplant, artichoke, zucchini) and Uovo (Eggs, Pancetta, wild mushroom, buffalo mozzarella) have everything delicious on them..whoever thought of the combinations are genius! I'm also a huge pasta lover, the fact that several of them are handmade is a thumbs up in my book. Although parking can be difficult around peak times, it is definitely worth trying (and coming back repeatedly). Their service is always attentive and friendly!

Do not understand the high reviews. Bib gourmand? I've had bib gourmand in New York, London, and Paris and this is NOT deserving of one. Parking was easy, near a public lot. Service was good. They don't take reservation, so showed up and there was a line. Proprietor said no more than 20 mins and kept us updated throughout, and we were seated at 18 mins. The fiocchetti stuffed with cheese and pear in gorgonzola cream was very good. They are like little pouches or money bags. Dough was well made, not too thick. Perfect balance of cheese and pear on the inside in a gorgonzola creamy sauce. Perfection! Hand made scialatielli with seafood - sauce was bland and runny. Seafood was not all that fresh and was overcooked. Pasta special was penne with sausage and kale. It was okay, no oomph. Wanted to order a veal dish from the special menu and server suggested the veal saltimbocca which was not on the menu. The 4 thin and small slices of veal topped with prosciutto were decent, but the sides of broccoli, carrots and mash potatoes were bland. For $26, yikes. Mamma's tiramisu was bland. Visually cannot tell the different layers apart, as if it was left out too long and has melted. It tasted flat and bland, cannot detect the coffee nor the mascarpone, only a bit of the cocoa powder. Nutellino was a pleasant surprise. It was nutella baked in a long calzone and it was good! The calzone was light and there was generous amount of nutella on the inside. It was served piping hot and oozing with nutella, yum! Overall a complete disappointment.

I'm honestly surprised at how terrible the whole thing was. When we got there, there was only a 10 minute wait. The bus boy came with water and filled up the glass only about a third of the way which left us surprised and laughing. That was a first. The waiter finally came and we ordered several items: Bruschetta sampler, caprese salad, seafood risotto, gnocchi, wild boar ragu with pappardelle and Brussels sprouts. The bruschetta sampler came out first and that was actually decent. It just went downhill from there. I also ordered a soda and I had to repeatedly ask for it. Then all the food came and I mean all of it. The waiter was told that the 4 of us were going to do this family style so when all 5 dishes came at the same time, I was a bit surprised and irritated. Not only was the table small so had issues fitting everything and therefore felt cramped, but you just can't get to everything quick enough so things were getting cold. Also, who the hell brings out a salad with all of the entrees? That shout have come out with the Bruschetta. That wasn't even the worst part. The food was terrible! The caprese salad had no olive oil on it nor salt and pepper so it was really bland. The risotto tasted like mush. It's pretty sad that an Italian restaurant doesn't know how to cook risotto properly. The pappardelle and and gnocchi were tasteless as well. The pasta clearly is not fresh. Overall, we were so disappointed in this meal. Not only was the service bad but the food was even worse. We didn't even stay for dessert. I won't be returning ever.

  • Andy W.

I was extremely disappointed with the food. The only thing that was good was the bruschetta sampler ($20). The risotto of the day ($20) was really bland and not cooked properly. Proper risotto should spread on a plate, this was more like a clump of mushy rice. The seafood that was in it was clearly from the freezer. After having a few bites of the gnocchi ($17), I feel like I was just stuffing my mouth with raw dough. The wild boar ragu with pappardelle ($17) was too acidic. It needed fat and possibly more cooking time to bind and balance out. The dishes were not coursed out correctly either. The caprese salad ($10) came out at the same time as everything else. The people were nice but it's not enough to make up for the bad food. Spiazzo a block down is a better choice.

I had an amazing time at this place last night. Me and my fiancee came in right before closing and recieved great service from our waiter Niccolo and the entire staff. Happy Joanie!!! Just had a delicious dinner of a Caprese Salad with the freshest and creamiest mozzarella I've ever had followed by homemade Gnocchi in a Gorgonzola Cream Sauce and a Nutellino for dessert. Of course, a wonderful glass of Sangiovese...and dare I say the most beautiful waiter ever!

Looks like they have bottomless mimosas for $15! Really tasty brunch. I ordered the spinach, sausage & mozzarella omelette. Definitely better than expected & much more! The servers were very attentive-- they got me everything I needed in a timely manner. Granted it wasn't that busy at 1030 in the morning, but they were always checking if we needed anything. My brother ordered the salmon eggs benedict. He was very surprised with the portions. He was used to getting 2 poached eggs, but this place gave 3!! My mimosas were perfect. Could not have asked for a better Sunday brunch. I will definitely come back & hopefully bring friends!

Well, it is a sad thing when a restaurant like this that used to be on the list of favorites moves itself over to the list of restaurants where I will never eat again. Tonight problems include my main course arriving at the same time as my appetizer. The meat in the pasta was cold and probably had never been cooked. The water I wanted when I sat down arrived when I was halfway through with my food. Of course, these issues could have been addressed if the staff had checked in with me. This experience follows the last one where their signature lasagna was served cold (not the way I like it), and the lasagna tasted nothing like the good lasagna I had come to expect here. Like I said - NEVER AGAIN. This place has lost it.

I was told that they handmade their pasta and since I'm such a huge pasta person, I knew I had to try a dish with pasta (and I had pizza the night before so I'd have to save their pizza for another time since they're known it as well). Just a couple doors down from Shaw's on W. Portal, parking here is fairly difficult to find. The decor is simple but elegant and the lighting is dimmed as well so it's a great place for a date night. We were starving so we opted to sit at the bar which allowed us to get seated right away. A feature that I enjoyed at this establishment is that they have an open air kitchen so it allowed us to see the hustle and bustle while we sat and ate. In addition, we were seated right across from the pizza oven so it was nice to watch the items being cooked in it. Our Order: Handmade Scialatielli Pasta Pescatora with fresh Mix Seafood in a Tomato Sauce ($19) Pappardelle Con Cinghiale Wild Boar Ragu ($17) Pinot Noir - Meiomi California 2011 ($12) Nutellino: ($8) homemade Calzone stuffed with Nutella chocolate Mama's Tiramisu ($7) While we're waiting they offer complimentary house bread with a side of olive oil. It was great because we were starving though our waiter never brought out the balsamic vinaigrette that I asked for. I had to ask the waitress that brought out our food to brings some. At least the food came out quickly. Pappardelle Con Cinghiale is a wide ribbon pasta dish served with a ragu sauce with tender chunks of wild boar. I loved how tender the boar was and it wasn't very gamey (which would've been fine with me if it was since I grew up on game meat). The boar was probably my favorite thing of the entire dinner (besides the Nutellino). Scialatielli Pasta Pescatora is a dish that reminds me of a cioppino over thick spaghetti-like noodles. I'm always weary about shellfish and how well they are cleaned but they weren't sandy or gritty here (just teeny tiny). I took a sip of the Pinot Noir and it complimented the meal well (though I'm not much of a wine drinker). It was smooth and not too dry. I love Tiramisu and was only going to order that until my friend pointed out the Nutellino. Nutella is another sweet that is a weakness of mine. Though they describe it as a calzone, it was more like a thick bread-stick with Nutella in it served on a wooden plank along side whipped cream that was dusted with cocoa powder. It had just come out of the oven as the Nutella was in a glorious melty state and oozed out of the bread as we tore it apart. Even though I love tiramisu, between the two desserts I enjoyed the Nutellino more. The tiramisu was moist but I prefer the ones where it has a bit of rum in it. Note: Though it's a great place for a date night, they do have a children's menu if you have to bring the little ones along.

Simple but classy in the side of town that is desperate for a decent Italian place. My gnocchi had a crazy rich cream sauce...adored the calamari & artichokes. Surprisingly excellent service in this town. Cute Italian waiter a definitely plus. Even the bread & olive oil was a cut above. Warning..they are busy! But there's a reason...

I came on Valentine's Day. This Valentines has to be my favorite. I usually HATE Valentine's day but this one was surrounded by a few of my favorite people here in the bay. It was me and 3 of my other co-workers and we ended up going over our 1 hour lunch. oops! Good thing the bosses were all off!!! Anyways we started off with some wine and some pizza. I seriously could listen to the entire staff talk all day long. I love love love italian accents. So pretty much then entire lunch I was asking for their recommendations and they didn't disappoint me! I forgot what the wine was called but we wanted a red wine that is a little sweet and it was perfect! With the pizza they recommended the bella pizza. I thought it looked funny with the salad in the middle but that really didn't matter. I never had a pizza like that before. It was a great recommendation. Of course I wanted dessert right after and my go - to italian dessert is always a tiramisu. It was heaven. I've had great tiramisu and i've had horrible tiramisu... This tiramisu was perfect. It's a great restaurant for a little wine, good food, and good conversation. I had a great time with friends and great experience with the staff at this restaurant. They were so friendly and welcoming!

Excellent service, really Excellent! The food was fresh, just from chefs hands-zero hang time. Lovely, simple, delicious flavours that you expect to get in Italy but hardly ever get on West coast America Italian. Exactly what we were looking for. Fresh, friendly, deliciously inviting experience. We left with a feeling that if we went back they would ask us how we have been since last time. Staff were so nice from owner/manager to our waiter and his Italian accent(if my Sister was with I would have been pushing her towards him). It was a wonderful experience. Seafood was fresh and delicious, as was the pasta. The lasagna is fabulous, same for the chocolate mousse and we had gotten the bruschetta with Parma. So so lovely. Can't wait to go back.

They have friendly atmosphere and amazing food. Everybody is very friendly at the restaurant. They all want to make sure you are happy with your order. In terms of service, they are very fast. My favorite is pizza Bella and their tiramisu is also very delicious. Overall great experience every time!!!!

Wonderful place: cozy interior, testy food (good size portions) & great service! This place is one of the best in the area. Perfect for business lunch/dinner, romantic dining or to have nice time with your friends & family. It was my first time here & I will definitely come back! :)

Very high quality and tasty Italian food. Apparently this is a relatively new addition to West Portal and its another hit on my favorite main street in San Francisco. It was packed on a Thursday night and there were multiple birthdays, making for a festive atmosphere, which was fine with me because I had just finished taking the bar exam that day. The spaghetti with meatballs was great and the branzino special looked very good too. The staff are all very friendly and accomodating. Even after we declined dessert our waiter brought us out some tiramisiu on the house, and I'm glad he did because this was the best tiramisiu I've ever had. Highly recommend

Service is awesome- everyone is from Italy and are so sweet and know the menu/specials from head to toe. Great wine selection that's pretty reasonable. The Bruschetta varieties are unique and yummy. Sometimes main dishes can be hit or miss-not very consistent but it's a new restaurant that I can see establish itself a few great dishes overtime.

Since this place has opened up it has been busy and it has been bringing to life the sleepy little commercial street of West Portal. My friend had loved it and took me there to share its wonders with me. While it has some good things going for it, there are a few minuses. Plus 2 stars: all the staff is cute! The waiters are all from Italy and not only are they cute but they have sexy accents too. Either this restaurant has a direct work exchange program with a small village in Italy or they hire their family and friends. Even the bus boys were cute, though not Italian. If you've read any of my previous reviews you know that handsome staff earns a star from me but because even the bus boys were cute and they all had charming accents, it's 2 stars. Appetizer Caprese con Burrata was phenomenal! Probably the best I've had. Main dish, meh. I ordered the Pollo Milanese it was waaaaay too dry. A real downer for me after that excellent starter. My friend's main dish was good though. Service: so so. Maybe because they were so busy, maybe because they servers are from Europe but it sure felt like we had to wait a while for everything. Am I just being a spoiled American? Atmosphere: very lovely. Perfect lighting, high ceilings, cohesive decor. I would go back but I would have to try a different entree.

"Risotto". $20. Absolute trash. Basically a huge pile of mush with a piece of asparagus, half a mushroom and 4 prawns. No flavor at all. I could write a few more paragraphs about how bad this was but I digress... Gnocchi. $17. Not quite as bad as the risotto... But still, trash. Peroni Beer. $0. Easily the best part of the meal. Free only because it took longer to get the damn beer than our entrees. All in all a total waste of time and money.

I give it five starts because of course no restaurant is perfect, but the food quality and the service was very good and I would definitely come again. To begin with the food was simply delicious. You can taste the freshness of the pasta on the first bite. I've never had homemade pasta before and this just sets the standards very high for me for the next time I have pasta. Me and my friend shared the seafood pasta and they had it ready for us in two plates, nicely arranged, like if we just ordered it without it being split into two. The calamari was very good as well with four people sharing it. So enough for a group of people to have as an appetizer. In the end of our meal we got the tiramisu, on the house because it was my friends birthday and it was one of the best tiramisu I've ever had! For the service: we got seated in five minutes on a weekend, so that was very fast. The owner of the place was so sweet and attentive. He actually made our order for us since he saw that we were ready to order. They were all very nice. Although one down side was that they accidentally gave our order to the table sitting next to us and we had to wait a little bit more longer, they were all very apologetic and showed that they cared about the customer. When we were leaving we actually had a talk with the owner asking us how we liked the food. I've never really experienced an owner of a restaurant talking to me so I liked the conversation we had with him a lot. He told us how the restaurant started with his mom cooking in the kitchen so you know their whole menu is authentic Italian. It seemed that all the waiters were Italian because of their accents. And not to mention their waiter skills. Our waiter actually carried 5 plates on his forearm and didn't struggle at all. That was quite impressive. The owner just told us that their first year just came up and I was quite shocked how recent they opened up this place. I give it five stars in the end because the food was sooo good. The servers were nice and attentive. Although the restaurant is kind of loud, but what do you expect with a busy restaurant? I would definitely want to come here again for a celebration or a nice fancy dinner.

One word...inconsistent. We had high hopes for this place but alas it was not to be. While the servers were polite, they lacked the professionalism normally expected at most dining establishments...you know, simple things like the waiter introducing himself by name or dropping by to see how we liked the food or refilling our drinks. The minestrone soup was pretty good but the fried calamari was bland, rubbery, obviously over cooked, and did I mention bland. The linguini pescatora was also inconsistent. The pasta in the dish was excellent but the calamari was once again over cooked and rubbery, I got a couple of clams that were not cleaned resulting in a few mouthfuls of dirt, and the shrimp was once again over cooked. We also ordered the margherita pizza with mushrooms and that was pretty good. Overall, we cannot recommend this place.

Is it weird that we've only been here once & I already know it's going to be our regular restaurant? Stopped in for lunch with some friends. The owner himself seated us & given my friend is quite literally 9 months pregnant & my fiance is 6'7, he insisted we wait for a bigger table -- which would only be a few minutes -- so we'd be comfortable. We started with the fried calamari & artichokes (!!!) & all went back & forth on what we'd have for our main because it looked SO.GOOD. I ended up copying the gentlemen sitting next to me & got the pescatore pasta -- with handmade noodles & sauce. The boys got the wood fired pizzas & my friend got the lasagne. It was incredible. All of it. Not only that, but the owner sent over not one but two dessert: tiramisu & salted caramel gelato with caramel fudge chunks. He clearly knows what he's doing with sending those desserts over because the four of us lost our minds. We couldn't even talk when our waiter came over to inquire how it was. We just kept putting at it & gesturing wildly. I don't even like tiramisu & I wanted to order another slice. To say we will be back is an understatement. I'm seriously considering moving in.

Any restaurant that serves a serious glass of wine (not a little teensy amount in a small wine glass) has my devotion. The service was excellent and the food was good. My mom had the salmon special which was good and I ordered the lamb shank which unfortunately was dry. The restaurant is very very loud so be prepared. I would also recommend making a reservation due to the small size otherwise you may end up waiting for some time.

The Staff kept apologizing that we had to wait just 15 mins for a table on Sat night! Sat at the counter & ordered delicious wild mushroom bruschetta as starter. Ordered mushroom ravioli & lasagna for Main Course, both were mouthwateringly delicious! Decided that we should end the evening sharing some tiramisu - should have ordered 2! We'll be back for more!

Love this place. The wife and I go back often and always have a good time. They're a real neighborhood place. The regular staff are great and most of them greet us warmly whenever we go. I love the caprese with burrata, the pizza, and the chicken schnitzel with eggplant. Strongly recommend this place.

Went again last night and this place continues to impress. Everything we had last night was perfectly done. The service is very helpful with their recommendations and extremely friendly. We got an appetizer, half bottle of wine, two entrees and a dessert for less than $100, which is an incredible bargain in the city, especially at this quality. As always, the seafood is delicious and fresh, and the pasta is equally as good. Can't recommend them enough.

There are a couple redeeming qualities about this place, so I'll mention those first. I came with a party of 5 around 8:15 on a Friday, and they were able to seat us right away, which was impressive because there were a lot of people there. The food is pretty good (I had the gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce). Unfortunately, the service wasn't great and we just felt like we were in the middle of chaos. It was really loud and we could barely hear people across the table. Our table was pretty wobbly and we asked two different servers and a man who we think was the manager (since we wouldn't always find ours and we asked him twice) to put down one of those wedges, but no one ever did anything about it. The seating was crowded and servers kept running into our table. The force of the kicks was spilling the water out of our glasses. This happened more times than I can count, and the servers almost never apologized. Sometimes the manager was right there and he had to apologize for his servers. I'm not sure if they added a table and they just weren't used to a table being there or if it was so busy they couldn't be bothered to watch where they were going. I understand a busy Friday night, but it was just too chaotic. I won't be back.

They have REALLY good customer service here. I just hated the food :( Tried two different kinds of pizza and a panini and I didn't like any of it Only thing I enjoyed about the food was the DELICIOUS complimentary tiramisu that they served us at the very end.

I think I may have just found one of my new favorite Italian restaurants in the City. Nuzzled right in the West Portal area, this little gem boasts authentic Southern Italian flavors with a warm and cozy atmosphere. From the moment we walked in, we experienced excellent service that was genuine and inviting. They really do make you feel like family here. I loved that all the servers spoke fluent Italian and recommended some of the yummiest dishes to us. It just added to the experience with a touch of authenticity. Our server was Alessandro and he made our dining experience impeccable. He was quick, accommodating, and really friendly. He knew we were eyeing the Pappardelle even before we said a word (he probably overheard our conversation ha!). At the end of our meal, I was debating whether or not to order the tiramisu (my FAVORITE dessert). I decided against it to be slightly healthier (especially after eating pasta), but they presented us with one anyway.. ON THE HOUSE. Aww... how can I refuse that?! Just gotta work out that much harder tomorrow! Indeed I was a very happy camper :) So in summary, the prices are very decent, the food was very flavorful and authentic, portions are large, and it's in a convenient location. Parking may be a bit of an issue sometimes, but definitely not as difficult as some of the other neighborhoods in SF. Again, I cannot stress how amazing the service was. Often time the host/hostess is the first person you talk to when you get to a restaurant. That short interaction can either make or break your experience there. The owner, I believe, was the host/maître d' and he immediately made us feel very welcomed. I noticed he was constantly walking around to each table to introduce himself and checking in to make sure the guests were accommodated. And of course, I was very happy with the free tiramisu. It was perfectly moist and creamy.. oh it was heaven in my mouth. All in all, a very solid restaurant and I would highly recommend it for a casual yet intimate dining experience.

Felt like having pasta tonight and found that this place was close by home and was on my yelp bookmarl, so hubby chosed it. Cute little italian place with open kitchen, nice and homey. We started with the caprese and the calamari. Calamari was ok but the caprese was excellent. Hubby got the lasagna and i got the scialatielli pasta pescatora. Hubby enjoyed the flavor of his lasanga and also the portion. My pasta dish was homemade and the seafood was so fresh that the sauce and flavor of the overall dish was so lively. The clams and mussels were so tender. Our server, Niccolo was very attentive, friendly and sweet (as well as the server assistance). He made sure we were enjoying our food and having a great time. Thank you Niccolo and the restaurant for a wonderful experience! We will definitely be back to try your brushettas.

Yummy Italian food! I had the lobster ravioli, one of the day's specials, and it was really good. I had generous chunks of lobster meat in my ravioli- the pasta was saucy and melted in my mouth. Then, my hubby and I shared the tiramisu for dessert- it was classically good- with light cream. The service was excellent! We were there for a friend's birthday- and the staff went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect! Magnificent! The restaurant is decorated well- with bold reds and yellows. I felt immediately at home. Overall, an excellent dining experience!

Coming in with an SF native... My BF & I came in for a quick bite and were pleasantly surprised!!!! No need to go to North Beach when you have this nice restaurant in your neighborhood! The bolognese was the owners- Vittorio's mother's recipe- YUMMO!!! (As was the Caesar salad & tiramisu) I was skeptical about the eggplant parmesan (I've had very oily & over cooked before)....so I safely ordered the brick oven cooked pizza.... Absolutely NO complaints about the pizza- it was AWESOME!!! Although, while THAT was cooking... Vittorio brought out a "sample" of HIS eggplant parmesan (again... Mother's recipe)... And it was AWESOME!!!! I can't stop thinking about it!! (Next on my list)!! Very friendly staff, atmosphere and great food! We will be back!! :-)

Dropped in for lunch today. Menu looked interesting and the vibe was chill. Sadly, that was the only good part of our lunch. Caprese burratta could have bee good, but the tomatoes were hard, chewy, and tasteless. We decided to try a pasta instead, ordering gnocchi pesto. What a disaster. Primary taste was salt, followed by cream with a vague taste of pesto. Ugh. The waiter kindly took it back and even tasted it himself and agreed it was salty. Even without too much salt it was horrible. There are quite a few restaurants in the neighborhood that are far better. We give one star because the waiter tried so hard to make up for the bad food.

as an "almost regular" at Trattoria Da Vittorio, I think it's a great addition to the west portal strip. Pizza: Fantastic. Crust is flavorful and chewy - if sometimes a little charred. The best is the salsiccia, followed closely by the uovo and bella. I miss the Rabe on the Salsiccia and hope it comes back this winter. Pasta: Good - but haven't had anything that wows me yet. but homemade and good standard fare. Apps: Bruschetta with burrata? yes please. and I don't know what hey do to their brussel sprouts but they are so good. Salads are good sized. Service: IMPECCABLE. I feel like you get the service of a much more expensive restaurant here. If you split a dish with a friend, they bring it out on two plates, water is filled, they have recommendations ready, they are friendly without being intrusive. often throw in a free glass of wine or a dessert just for the heck of it. and the italian accents are real :) Wine: a nice list- but they need to invest in a temperature controlled wine fridge. The reds are served way too warm. mmm i think i might go again tonight.

You know a place is good when I am sitting at my desk the next day dreaming about my meal. Where to begin; I went with my Nana and Aunt to Trattoria last night, our kitchen is being remodeled and we are in the stage of having absolutely nothing (no sink, fridge, end in sight). So eating out and become a regular, eating out is supposed to be a fun experience but lately it has become just a regular thing, nothing special, just another meal. This was different. From the moment we walked in and got seated, I knew this was going to become one of my "go to" places. The service is amazing, I cannot begin to express how pleased I was with not only our waiter (who was on point), but the bussers, hostess, and manager/owner who was walking around making sure everything was perfect. We did not get any appetizers but from what I saw around me everything looked amazing. The table next to us sat down and gave their order right away, they were regulars and said they come to share the apps and wine all the time. I know I will be seeing them again when my friends are I are doing the same. The Dinner- My aunt and I split two of their specials; the Sea Bass which came with homemade mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus and the Homemade Mushroom Raviolis. My Nana got their other special which was a seafood risotto. There came to a point where all of realized no one had spoken in 5-10 minutes; that's how you know a place is making 5 star food- We did not speak one word to each other once our food was in front of us. We should have ended our meal there. That would have been the smart thing to do; the entrée portions were perfect and filling. But than they HAD to show us the dessert menu. No person in their right mind is going to say no to a Nutella Calzone. My Nana ordered the Carmel Gelato with Sea Salt & Olive Oil. We couldn't stop eating. I would go back just for the desserts, I would go back ALONE just for the desserts. I would order the desserts to go and sit alone in my non-remodeled empty kitchen just for the desserts. They were that good. I would give you 6 stars if I could Trattoria. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.

Had dinner for my dad's birthday. Service was great. Everyone was pleasant and worked super efficiently. The manager (owner?) even stopped by our table to ask how everything was. The bussers were on top of everything and were all smiles each time they were at our table. Our server, Lorenzo was such a peach. +Arugula and beet salad: super fresh -Calamari and artichokes: fresh but SALTY +Tomato soup: amazingly fresh +Wheat ravioli w/ ricotta and pesto: tasty and highly recommended +Risotto special: white sauce w/chicken was very mild and moist-didn't need extra seasoning +Their famous lasagna: very hearty (feeds 2-3) one of the better lasagnas I've tired +Seafood pasta +Margherita pizza +San Daniele pizza The restaurant was packed with a wait on a Wednesday night-pretty impressive. Dessert: ++Nutella calzone with vanilla bean gelato +Tiramisu: light and fluffy-not too sweet Will definitely come back. Price: $$-$$$ (depending on what you get and if you order alcohol) Pizza ~$14 Pasta ~$16 Desserts ~$8 Bill for 6 people with alcohol was $225//$280 w/tip

This is a wonderful, new neighborhood Italian! Everyone from the hostess, to our server, and bussers were super friendly and eager to please. The menu boasts a wide variety of starters, salads, pizzas, pastas and traditional Italian dishes. Everything we ordered was delicious, seasoned nicely, and courses were timed perfectly. Definitely will have to come back again!

Love this place!!!!! I'm always craving it! I used to never be able to tell the difference in Italian foods...but THIS place changed my palate, forever! The place is NOISEY!! Food is ok, not great, service is a bit lacking. Couldn't even get a water refill & had to ask a couple of times for more bread & hot peppers for my pasta. The bread itself seemed a bit dry & stale. My seafood pasta was ok. Not really very generous w/the portion size. Probably won't be back. I've had much better service & food elsewhere!

I have to say that this restaurant is very nice but very Loud!:( The bread was old:( The prosciutto appetizer was ridiculous! They only used one slice on six slices of bread:( My husband's main course of the Veal Scallopini was a complete shame! Great sauce but come on! 4 very thin slices of veal w/veggies & red potatoes, he was starving when we got home!:( At $24!!! Ridiculously stingy! My lamb shank & mashed potatoes was superb! No veggies though:( $19 We won't be returning, I was not impressed, I'd rather go to North Beach w/ real Italian dining:) they do have good food but they need to step it up a notch for the prices they charge, I hope they read they're review's so they can change things, Good luck

My boyfriend and I came here for a nice dinner, I've lived in the neighborhood for years and had never gone before. Dinner was incredible! We started off with 3 appetizers. We had their caprese with the most amazing cheese I've ever had (I forgot what it was called) but it was defiantly fresh. At first I thought the caprese was odd because it had arugula instead of basil, but when I cut into it I realized the basil was there and the arugula was just a tasty garnish. We had their brussel sprouts in a cream and bacon sauce, it was slightly over-cooked, but had a beautiful display. Our third appetizer was called Funghi-sliced bread with mushrooms and baked cheese served hot! The appetizers were all beautifully displayed and had an abundance of food on each. For our entrees we had a pizza with precuto and arugula and a 3 cheese and pear pasta with a yummy cheese sauce. And last but certainly not least we had their sorbet of the day which was lemon and blood orange, both flavors were captured perfectly and each bit was better then the rest. The ambiance was quiet, we sat outside, it was a little chilly but they had a heater they turned on for me. Inside theirs were a few families dinning with small children-a real family place. Our server Giovanni was attentive without being over baring and at the end he informed us that he was a co-owner and was originally from Rome, Italy. So authentic. He had a nice log chat with us at the end of the meal and invited us back. We will defiantly be returning. The meal was a little pricey but you really pay for what you're getting, the whole meal was still less then $100, it was defiantly worth every penny!

We had a great dinner here tonight! The service alone is worth raving about, and the meal was delicious as well. As a party of six with two in their eighties (and several dietary requests), we were not a low maintenance group. The owner, manager, and chef went above and beyond to accommodate us from start to finish. True commitment to customer service across the board - always appreciated. I had the prosciutto and arugula pizza, which was outstanding - and I consider myself a thin-crust Italian-style pizza snob. We didn't try the any of the bruschetta options but after seeing them I will be sure to next time! Menu is a perfect mix of their pizzas and fresh pastas at a very good value. We will be back, in hopefully a lower maintenance way!

We had a solid meal here. We walked in around 8:45 and the place was busy. We were greeted and seated immediately. It's casual, but has dimmed lighting and a nice long bar with seating. The burrata bruschetta had the perfect amount of cheese, bread, and prosciutto. I'll definitely order it again. The eggplant was also good. It had tons of flavor and was very fresh. (I loved that it wasn't fried also!) My fiancé had the meatballs, he said they were okay. I never order meatballs out because they are never like my mothers or grandmothers, so why bother? Lastly, the tiramisu was sent to us on the house. That was delicious too!

So impressed! JJ and I rolled into the restaurant at about 8 pm on a Friday night and, although it was pretty crowded, we were immediately shown to a table for two. We were immediately served with fresh bread and olive oil (which we inhaled because we were starvin'), and were situated with two lovely glasses of wine (good pours!). We couldn't decide what to eat so we both ordered the specials: I had the Branzino (one of my most favorite fishes!) which was pan-seared perfectly and served with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes with some delectable green sauce drizzled around the edge - very pretty; and JJ had the lamb shank which was falling-off-the-bone deliciousness, with the gnocchi (which I kept sneaking off his plate). We both practically licked our plates clean. The service was stellar. The owner, Vittorio, came by our table and had a nice chat, which I always think is a lovely touch. I am definitely coming back here - it's so lovely to have excellent Italian food for a decent price in a nice neighborhood like West Portal (i.e. I don't have to schlep to North Beach).

Great staff, greeted me promptly and sat my dog and I on the patio. Fast service, I waited no time for my wine and app. Great authentic food. Marinara was outstanding (speaking as a picky NY). One word for dessert "nutellino". Well be back!

Just returned from dinner - luckily we arrived at 5:00pm when we left at 6:30 the restaurant was packed and the line was out the door! Note: they do not take reservations! The good: Very attentive staff - water glasses always full and table cleaned between courses - plenty of bread and olive oil for dipping 2 in our party had the sea bass and mashed potatoes - they loved it - crisp skin on the fish, fresh asparagus and creamy potatoes 2 of us had the gnocchi - one with pesto and one with Gorgonzola - pillowy soft, great sauces and ample portion We shared the bruschetta with burrata and prosciutto and one order with pompodoro - fresh and flavorful ingredients For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse, caramel gelato and nutellina - yum yum and yum! Nary a crumb left! The not so good: Pricey wines $32 for a pedestrian chianti Tables a little cramped - hard to hold a private conversation All in all a nice addition to the West Portal scene

Great atmosphere, great staff. All are super friendly. I've been here twice and have not been disappointed. I had the calamari, it was good but the artichokes were a little too salty, other than that the calamari was lightly battered and fried. It was tasty and not chewy. My sister and I shared the Margarita pizza. It was tasty, a great way to share as an appetizer or to have as an entrée. Second time we had the beet salad, very nice and we shared the eggplant parmesan. Now I am learning to like eggplant and I really did enjoy this entree. The eggplant wasn't mushy, nor bitter, and the sauce was full of flavor. Next time, I want to try the pasta.

I went here on a Friday night with friends and a colleague visiting from out of town. We had no reservation and the restaurant was full with a line at the door, but the host said it would only be a 20 minute wait. A little while later he checked back in to ask if he could seat a family with small children before us and we were happy to oblige. Minutes later he returned with a bottle of sparkling wine and gave everyone in our party a free glass. This was just the beginning of a phenomenal dining experience and some of the best service I've ever had. For dinner we tried the egg pizza, a seafood pasta, a caprese salad and the special of stuffed zucchini blossoms. Everything was delicious and made for a perfect family-style meal among friends. Of particular note is the cheese that they use on the caprese salad; while I' used to a firmer mozzarella, they use a creamier and slightly richer cheese that's a bit thicker than ricotta. I was on the fence about ordering dessert and while we mulled over a dessert menu, our server appeared with a free tiramisu for the table--a royal 'pick me up.' The affogado is also sublime; a chocolate truffle served with a shot of espresso :-) Besides being truly hospitable and serving excellent food in a lovely environment, the people at Trattoria da Vittorio gave me, my friends, and our out of town guest an unforgettable dining experience.

Amazing experience!! Will be definitely going back with my family/friends. The lasagna is a MUST. The best lasagna I've ever had. Was able to chat with one of the owners, and he very kindly suggested dishes to try and served us some tiramisu on the house at the end of our meal, and again, the best tiramisu I've ever tried before.

Came here to celebrate my husband's birthday and it did not disappoint. This restaurant has been opened for 6 months and I absolutely love the welcome feeling as you enter. An Italian waiter came and shook our hands and welcomed us with a smile. After his recommendations and food description, we ordered some specials and before long our food came out with bread and olive oil for dipping. I loved the italian accents and the interior was chic and warm, almost felt like I was in a small town in Italy. We ordered Lamb Shank n gnocchi...so delicious, the meat falling off the bone delicious. Mushroom risotto ...was really tasty and my hubby got a good helping of parmesan on top. Boneless shortribs...was really tender and flavorful and really complimented the mash potatos and carrots. Cold cuts were good with some crusty bread. By the time we finished all the entrees, we were so full but we still had room for one tiramisu which the waiter gladly bought extra spoons out for us to share. Overall the food was absolutely delicious and good size portions. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. Really felt like I was entering someones home. MOST likely I will go back there again for another celebration meal.

So, this place looked freekin' awesome... with all these amazing reviews, I was going to be pretty easy to impress. And at first, I was impressed. The burrata caprese and burrata and prosciutto bruschetta were - in a word - incredible. The burrata was just flat delicious. The bread in the bruschetta could have been _a little_ less toasted/crispy, but if that was my only complaint, we were doing pretty good. With these two appetizers delighting our mouths, we were thrilled to get to our main courses. I ordered the day's special: lobster ravioli with a creamy tomato sauce. My boyfriend ordered the gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce. And our visiting friend ordered the porcini ravioli. All sounded screechingly awesome. In all cases, the textures were perfect. But, in all cases, there was just something missing. With an embarrassing amount of salt added, things got "better," but with no help that we were able to provide did they reach "good." The lobster ravioli tasted less like lobster and more like the water in which the lobster was cooked. In my experience, lobster is an easy flavor to deliver with a punch. This just somehow failed. Again, the textures were perfect... and I was excited as I first put it in my mouth... it just finished off very anticlimactically. I ate all of it, but was wildly underwhelmed. My boyfriend's gnocchi, again, had a wonderful texture. I really wanted to love this, too -- maybe they just screw up the specials, but they nail the hell out of the standard menu items, right? But it tasted less like gorgonzola and more like a basic alfredo sauce. I couldn't eat more than two or three off his plate. He left probably a third or more on his plate..... and, just no. We're fat grrls, ok? We don't leave food. Just sayin. Our friend's porcini ravioli is the dish I considered getting before I learned about the specials.... and, again, I was excited he let me try some. Again, the textures were great... but, again, the flavors were barely meh. Mushrooms? How? I don't understand. Like I said, we were able to vaguely salvage things by salting the ever-loving crap out of everything.... but that is neither what I want to do, nor what I should have to do. Also it didn't completely save it.... it took things from meh to ok. Through the whole experience, we felt confused. We kept asking each other, "what is it missing?" The best answer we could come up with was: "flavor." Everything about the things we ordered SCREAMED flavor, but the deliveries barely whispered it. On top of this, the service was pretty weak. For example, it took upwards of 20 minutes after our plates were cleared before we got our check. Normally, this would be fine.... but, given the lackluster meal, the absence of stellar service kinda stood out more than it otherwise would have.

Lentil soup was the "homemade soup of the day". It was hearty and delicious. We added a Margherita pizza with pepperoni and a specialty dish of breaded and fried chicken breast with eggplant parmigiana. I asked for a side of spaghetti which they gladly included at no charge. Our server also brought us a slice of tiramisu for dessert on the house. Their pizza is excellent. Service was great. Loved the eggplant parmigiana. Fried chicken breast?.....not so much.

The place can get crowded pretty quickly on a Friday night and my cousin and I did have to wait almost 30 minutes for a table, but we were very satisfied with our meal. We both got the lamb shank and gnocchi that was on the specials board. It was really good. We both had leftovers to take back home and I asked to keep my bone because I wanted to eat the bone marrow that was inside. Our waiter, Roberto, was very nice. We planned on getting the nutella calzone and he gave us a complimentary tiramisu. We went back again and got the last available table before the rush came in (another Friday night). We loved the Burrata cheese and 24 month aged San Daniele prosciutto bruschetta (Roberto's recommendation). We also had the Bella pizza. Both had burrata cheese and prosciutto and it was very good. Creamy and salty. We finished our meal with the caramel gelato drizzled with olive oil. The olive oil helped the gelato from tasting too sweet, which I liked. Overall, my cousin and I like coming to this place. Service was very nice to us both times and there's more food here we would like to try. If it is your first time here, you can never go wrong with the lamb shank and gnocchi if they have it that night.

this is my favorite place in town for Italian! The owner and staff are so nice and make you feel like you are eating with family. They are the best! My husband and I are faithful customers. Love this place!

After visiting the dog park at the stern grove, I had to find a place to eat that would let me bring my dog. Luckily for me there was outdoor seating! Arrived around 3 o clock and was seated right away. The food was great and so was the service!

The eggplant lasagna is out of this world!! One of the top dishes I've tried this year. I'm really starting to see the vegetarian appeal! Maybe one day. I imagine Italy to resemble places like these- warm, inviting, filled with glass clanking, hearty laughing, loud Italian gabber. We opted to sit outside since there was quite a wait to be seated indoors. The night was a little chilly but nothing a bottle of chianti can't fix. We were never neglected on the patio, service is as attentive as it could get. A lovely experience with the best company and excellent dessert to top it off. The cream puffs were nice and fun to eat (picture attached). The staff poured wine for the patrons waiting outside to keep them jolly while they stood around nibbling on appetizers- a smart and friendly gesture.

Went here last night for the first time! Loved everything about it. The wine pours are very generous and dinner (sole and short ribs) was delicious. The owner was so hospitable and even though he was super busy he accommodated everyone coming in. I look forward to eating here again!

This is the neighborhood place to go to for some delicious Italian comfort food and wine. I've been there a number of times and have walked out happy and satisfied. For dinner one needs to get there before six before a queue is formed.

From the time you walk in to when you leave, the service is definitely top notch. The waiters have the menu details down and offer some good selections though it seems that ours didn't really listen to us. My mom asked which was better the veal or the lobster ravioli...his persuasive Italian self somehow managed to get my mom to switch to the lamb shank with sage butter gnocchi...lol. Portions are large, but some dishes are very unbalanced. Prime example: my lobster risotto. The lobster was excellent, the meat was sweet but crisp....but no matter how many ways you cut it, there was no way that you could have enough lobster for the obscene amount of risotto there was on the plate! I would give it 3 stars, but that extra star is reserved strictly for dessert. The caramel gelato was to die for! And we were given a slice of tiramisu on the house. Pretty awesome if you ask me!

Had an early dinner and couldn't be happier! We enjoy eating Italian food and this place has made it in to our short list of favorite places to eat. Service was excellent minus a mixed up order which was quickly rectified. The (presumed) owner was walking around checking on tables. Watched him even setting up tables and interacting with customers which was great to see. Everything from the bruchetta, salad to pasta was absolutely fantastic. Looking forward to returning and trying the other pasta dishes that are offered! Grazie!

This is the second time we went. The lasagna was so covered with tomato sauce, which was not fresh, that you couldn't taste the pasta. The risotto was very low quality, almost like the rice you get at a Chinese meal, the stuffed pasta with pears was OK. We won't go a third time, just no reason to have poor Italian food in SF.

I love this place and go whenever I am in West Portal. Their pizza is very good - and perfect if you want a more authentic Italian pizza. Their eggplant parmesan and Pollo Milanese are my favorite dishes on the menu - oh, and their caprese salad is a favorite, too! The staff is always very friendly and attentive without being overbearing.

I was introduced to risotto for te first time in my life. And I wonder why it barely entered my life. Their pizza is too good. Their pasta is way too good. Wine, coffee, service, all good. It's my favorite Italian restaurant in California.

Have been here twice now because it's close to SFSU, where our daughter is now attending. The first time, it was just she and I. We loved it so much, we took dad back with us when we moved her in. Everything we had on both visits was delicious! The olive oil used for bread is perfect - light but tasty. The calamari was fried to perfection. On the first visit, I got the special of the day, whole wheat ravioli with filling that I think was mushroom - it was good and a generous portion. Daughter got the pear filled pasta with gorgonzola sauce. IT WAS TO DIE FOR! Reminded me of the pasta we had last year in the Chianti region of Italy. We took the leftovers home to dad, who determined he must go and get them himself. So on our 2nd visit, he got them again, and they were just as tasty. I got and loved the eggplant parmesan. We also had the caprese and stuffed ourselves with some dessert. I don't usually like tiramasu, but this one was light and fluffy, very delicate in flavors. All in all, the 3 of us agree that this is our favorite Italian restaurant and can't wait to visit again!

Came here for a business meeting. Sat down, friendly wait staff greeted us. We asked what the specials were. They had lentil soup, salmon steak, salmon salad, and lobster ravioli. Hmm...I hate lentils...don't feel like salmon...so I ordered the lobster ravioli, while my associate got the salmon steak. I also ordered the beet salad to start. Although very simple for its price, the salad was very good. My problem with the meal was the lobster ravioli. At first I couldn't pinpoint what was wrong.. but then realized the filling was flaky? Lobster doesn't flake...what is this filling? Which is when I guessed salmon, and then it all made sense. You know when a place has specials, its either because its something they want to test a new item OR their supply is going bad an they want to get rid of something. So 3 of their specials are salmon based...hmmm... It tasted more fishy than lobster-y. But still edible, and the sauce was fairly good. Complimentary generously sized portion of delicious tiramisu makes this place a solid 3 stars.

This is the type of place you feel right at home when you walk through the doors. It gives you a warm feeling with you walk in. The owner makes you feel like family. The food was wonderful. We had a pizza to share and it was delicious. The procuitto was mouth watering. The brusschetta was one of the best that I have tried. I had the pasta with the seafood and the pasta was perfectly al-dente. The special, which my husband had, a gnocchi was just wonderful, special, and just amazing!! This place is going to be our go to spot for great home cooked italian food. A+

Very disappointed in the food. The staff were super friendly but both dishes - lasagne that was merely plopped on the plate and looking rather sad and the Italian sausage pizza - were less than mediocre at best. We will stick to Spiazzo up the street for the excellent food there. Besides - a television in a restaurant?

The service was excellent and the salad was great, but we weren't blown away by the pasta. The portion sizes are generous, but didn't love the sauces on the pasta. We ordered the rigatoni and my hubs ordered the pappardelle. Maybe next time we try other dishes!

What an incredible place to enjoy a meal! The atmosphere is busy but has very romantic lighting. The food is excellent. You have to try the lasagna and the tiramisu! Even though both are basic italian dishes they are heavenly none the less. I was also pleasantly surprised with the personable service. The owner came up to us and chatted with us which I liked very much. You could really see that he cared about his business and the quality of his food. I plan to come back for seconds so I'll see you there folks.

This review is for their awesome food and a great owner (?possibly very caring manager) who takes the time to make sure we are doing great [I heard when the owner is not there - the service is not as great - feedback from non-yelpers]. I have been here two times - this is the favorite of my in-laws. Tried so far more than 1/2 of their menu: Bruschetta's, Pizza, Organic roasted beet salad, soup, Caprese, Risotto, sole Piccata, short ribs, veal special... and we were debating wild boar ragu pasta - so they were kind enough to get us a sample (it was great for the wild boar, but too gamy for most people at the table). And... the winner is... so hard to pick! I would go for short rib (on the heavy side) and beat salad (lighter side). And... drum roll... leave room for nutella calzone! they decorate it in the smiley face style. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. However, come early - line out the door around dinner time

The service was mediocre. The ingredients tasted fresh.... But not very flavorful. I had the scialatielli pasta with fresh clams. The noodles were fresh. But the sauce was bland. I kept thinking of the ingredients I would have added. The sauce basically tasted like canned tomato sauce, or a tomato pasta sauce sans anything that gives a sauce flavor (think garlic, herbs etc). Not horrible. But just fresh noodles is not enough for me. My co-patron had the veggie pizza. It does not have a sauce. He had the same issue I did. I tasted the crust. It was good, and the pizza had fresh ingredients. But again, the pizza lacked flavor. Overall it wasn't a horrible experience. Just mediocre. Meh service. Meh food. I would go somewhere else next time.

Noisy at lunch, even in a corner. At a table for six I couldn't hear the woman diagonally across from me. My pizza had a singed crust at the edge but was soft in the middle - unbalanced. However, everyone enjoyed their lunch, the atmosphere was upbeat. We were comped a tiramisu, which was nice. All in all, good, not stellar. Would try again after exhausting other local choices.

What a great place!!! Friendliest staff ever let alone the most delicious paninis on the menu. Our server Dogukan made our Sunday much better with his recommendations and continuous mimosa service. We finished our breakfast with one of the most well-balanced tiramisu I've ever had accompanied with some great italian gelato. Definitely recommend to visit this place. Clean, fast and welcoming!!

Great daily specials. Pasta made from scratch. A decent wine list. Great service and staff. It was interesting that all the staff had Italian accents. Nice to see West Portal get an overall good Italian restaurant with a diverse menu. A great place to bring the family, especially if you have young children.

This is a fun restaurant on West Portal. It's socially a very fun place to hang out at on Friday nights. The staff including Vittorio himself (the ower) are warm, friendly, and very welcoming. Wine selection here is awesome and the food is excellent. My favorite dish is definitely the shortribs. Best I've ever eaten.

Da Vittorio has been part of our usual lineup of date night places since it opened around a year ago. The food here is solid, jumping between home-cooked styles and some other more experimental dishes. I like the brick oven pizzas and the spaghetti and meatballs, but I mostly appreciate the excursions from the usual Italian standbys. Italian can get a little repetitive, so I usual try something I haven't seen at other Italian places. As is the case everywhere, venturing into the unknown can be hit or miss. Food aside, the reason we keep coming back, and a big reason for the 5 star rating is the hospitality. We've been greeted by the owner literally every time we've been here, and always been treated like family, which is the most endearing part of any good Italian meal. Free drinks and desserts aside, this is a place we're always happy to come back and support.

Passed this restaurant in West Portal and decided to stop for brunch. Service was prompt and excellent in every way. We had Eggs Benedict with bacon and an Omelet with spinach. Both were excellent and portions were very generous. We tried some items from the dessert menu and found them very good. The Nutellino Calzone was a surprise and very tasty, as was the trio of sorbets sampled. The Caramel Sorbet with olive oil and sea salt was excellent. Don't miss this place if you can.

Excellent excellent service! It reminded me of being back on the East Coast. Waiters were prompt friendly and had a thick Italian accent - loved it! Food was good and I will certainly venture back here. SF doesn't have too many good Italian places so this is certainly a good find.

Service is superb, food was brought lightning fast and was incredible. Prices are a bit high for my taste, though not out of the San Francisco norm. The product they deliver is well worth the cost. Despite a large crowd, the waiters and employees were prompt, efficient, and very polite. Everyone around, us included, had nothing but wonderful things to say!

The service was my favorite part. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and handshakes. We started with calamari that was delish. Highly recommended! I am in the minority on this one, and maybe I was there on an off night. However, I thought the food was bland and the pasta was soggy. The service was outstanding, and, to be fair, I should have said something. However, I doubt I'll go back.

A real Southern Italian Restaurant in West Portal! Husband and I decided to try it out on a Friday Night and yes, it is busy. It was the day after Thanksgiving and we noticed a couple of big parties but they really managed it well given the size of the restaurant. We started with their bruschetta with aged san daniele proscuitto with cheese. The cheese and proscuitto was fabulous but the bruschetta was toasted too much and it was too hard to eat. I tried one of their specials, papadelle noodle with dungeness crab and it was great, the noodle is very fresh, you can tell it was homemade. My husband ordered a pizza and it was tasty. I'm truly a fan and since I'm local, I will be back to try more items. If you are deciding between Spiazzo and here, well....this place won't disappoint!

As good as it gets is what 5 stars means on Yelp and that is the perfect description for this neighborhood superstar! Great service, wonderful atmosphere and absolutely fantastic, authentic Italian food at a reasonable price. Whether it be the superb Neapolitan style pizza, killer pastas or wine from their beautiful wine list, you are going to leave with a smile on your face and plans for the next visit on your mind! And make certain you try the Nutella stuffed dough with whipped cream for dessert. Heaven!! Go, Go, GO!!

Came on a Tuesday night with a group of 4 and had a great experience. Our waiter was actually from Venice, which made the Italian restaurant experience even better. He recommended a great bottle of wine and we had the burrata appetizer that was wonderful. The service is always friendly and attentive, and I always get something extra on the house. A small dessert, or drink... This may depend on the celebration - I recommend Nicolo. I've liked all his recommendations on the menu. you made our night thank you Nico

Order the lasagna. It's to die for! Although it can get a little noisy, I love the cozy, welcoming environment. The staff is attentive, fun, and friendly, and the food is consistently good. Also recommend them for catering. They were very accommodating, had the food hot and ready to be served, and made me look like a rock star hostess. One word of caution: The portions are like what you'd get at your grandmother's -- enough for seconds for everyone plus leftovers! My final word: Yum!

Haters, why you hating? This place is great! I have been a WP resident for a long time. I remember when the CVS was a Woolworth's and you could buy hamsters there. So old skool. Fast forward to tonight when three of us WP families decide to finally try Trattoria Da Vittorio. We had been stalling because, like most WP residents, we all thought that the street did not need yet another Italian/Pizza restaurant. You know Spiazzo sux and if you want good pizza you go to Goat HIll or Paradise. And if you want really good italian food you head to Tomasso's in NB. WOW. Mind blown. Trattoria Da Vittorio is awesome. The gnocchi are better than I've had anywhere, even in Italy. I have to say that everything we had was solid but the gnocchi were the most amazing little heavenly pillows of light potato fluffiness that I'd pay twice as much for them. And Napoli pizza out of a legit oven. A few in the party had cinghiale (what our server called a "man meal") but it had no resemblance to cinghiale I've had in Tuscany.... but props for trying! Spag and meatballs were HUGE and the lasagne was literally bigger than a brick. I have no idea where the Yelpers complaints about serving size came from because all of our portions were practically too big to finish. But we did. Very loud room but we were a group of 11 people so maybe we were raising the decibels some - yet the waitstaff was patient and efficient. I can understand how some Yelpers could think they were pushy but I think they are really trying to please. (Hey, at least they are attentive and not rude like servers in many Italian cities.) We had to wait awhile for our table and Vittorio served us a complimentary bottle of prosecco outside while we were waiting. Very thoughtful. Will definitely be back!

Not really sure how Trattoria Da Vittorio has so many good reviews. I think that all the old people in the area, reflects in their food. Tired and bland with no flavor at all, it tastes like hospital food. I ordered the pasta pescatora, the tomato sauce was watery and very bland (no salt, pepper, onions, garlic nothing) straight from the can. The seafood had no seasoning at all. There is no way that all of the seafood was fresh either, because the calamaris tasted like rubber. We also ordered the chicken milanese which wasn't seasoned at all and had no flavor the sauce was straight from the can but this time less watery and more paste. Even the pizza sucked, the tomato sauce was lacking some serious seasoning. (Even pizza hut can make a better pizza wtf). In conclusion I think that its safe to say Trattoria Da Vittorio is in need of a new spice rack because the one currently in the kitchen isn't in service. The latin cooks were to busy socializing then, tasting the food that was coming out of the kitchen. When the bus boy came and took the food I said that all the food tasted like hospital food, and he chuckled and smiled. The worst part is the place is extremely overpriced for the portion you get.

After being a returning customer here I have come to love this place more and more. The ambiance is very true to its Italian roots that makes you feel the warmth beyond your tummy. Recently I tried the Gorgonzola pear stuffed ravioli that I am madly in love with. I just wish it was apart of the permanent menu. So I would definitely suggest you trust the specials, they have yet to disappoint me. And if you have room afterwards try the mamma's tiramisu! It's what ultimately earned the fifth star for me.

I think this place is racist, because me and my friend waited at the door to be seated for 5 minutes and the hostess looked at us twice but did not seat us. It wasn't busy at that time either, only 5 tables were occupied. I gave them a middle finger and it's their loss of good tip! Jerks!!

This place has gone straight down hill since it opened It's been a little more than a year since I first ate here. Last night was at least my sixth time dining in my new Italian neighborhood restaurant, and it will be my last. What a shame. You never know what you will get to eat, or how much they will charge you for your drinks. We just wanted pizza, and I remembered that when I ordered the Italian sausage pizza a couple of months ago, it came topped with something resembling oscar meyer wieners. When I mentioned this to the waiter, a vero italiano, he assured me that it was indeed Italian sausage on top of the Pizza. I just shook my head. Pizza Hut has better Italian sausage. So knowing this, last night I ordered the Margarita pizza, with pepperoni added on for an extra buck. A pizza with at least one half pound of pepperoni arrived. So much pepperoni that you couldn't even see what was underneath, and that was a good thing, because it was by no means a margarita, which has white mozzarella cheese, green basil, and red tomato sauce. This pizza had almost no cheese, a thin suggestion of tomato sauce, and nothing green at all anywhere. Mostly dough and enough pepperoni to keep me up all night. But I really won't go back because we ordered Chianti and had two glasses, which was OK because the wine list has a $7 glass, and their glasses are big. the waiter didn't ask what kind of Chianti we wanted, and when the bill came, there was a $22 charge for the wine. My bad-- I should have said 'cheap Chianti, please". Never again.

Authentic Italian kitchen it's not just a pitch. I tried the pizza and it was as it is supposed to be: thin crust and delicious. My friend tried the lasagne and omg. They also have amazing desserts: we tried the Nutella one and the tiramisu ( one of the best I had since I moved here from Italy ! ).

I had nice business lunch today. The service, food, and environment was excellent. Love the salt code bruschetta, and the Calabrese pizza w/pepperoni was fantastic. We topped it all off with Tiramisu and coffee. The owner also brought us complimentary calzone with nutella, which is their house specialty (must order). This is definitely my go to spot for great pizzas and handmade pastas.

Ok so my boyfriend and I came to this place since we live in the neighborhood. We wanted to try it out considering it looked busy and is fairly new. I got there early to get a table and wait for my boyfriend. I was greeted by almost everyone when I walked in. Everybody who works here is authentic Italian and very welcoming. It was almost overwhelming getting welcomed so fast and by like 5 different people. (door man, servers, chefs) I sat at the bar and was greeted by my server almost immediately. When my boyfriend arrived he ordered the chicken parmesan on a bed of eggplant. I ordered the homemade special ravioli with pears and ricotta. Both dishes were amazing! So full of flavor! Now here's why I'm giving it 3 stars, the portion size is ridiculously small! I am not a glutinous person, I weigh 115 pounds and my bf is tall and lean himself. When I think authentic Italian, I think of leaving with your belly full! This place has it all ( ambience, great service, and delicious homemade food) but for the price... Not worth it! Each of our dishes were $20-25 each. I got 6 small size ravioli's scattered on my plate. My boyfriends chicken parmesan was the size of a chicken strip with not even a handful of eggplant underneath. We both were still so hungry after our entrees that we had to order an entire margarita pizza to be satisfied. Now I don't know about you but I love feeling full and satisfied after a good Italian meal. This did not happen here. If you love small Italian portions, give this place a shot. Other than that I enjoyed the service and warm welcoming. We might come back again. I just want this place to know if you're going to charge $20 a plate, please make it worth while by allowing guests to leave full not hungry.

I really just can't say enough good things about this place. I have become a regular here and it just gets better and better. The beef short ribs are my favorite item on the menu. Perfect every time. I also like their pizza here, which is a huge shock. As I said before, I am not a pizza or pasta person. Their burrata cheese and prosciutto pizza is delicious!! And left overs for days at this place. Definitely a plus! I do want to remark on how amazing the service is here. Very attentive and friendly staff and once they get to know you, they will joke around a bit. You can tell they think of their customers as if they were apart of their family. I really enjoy coming to this place, not only for the best Italian food EVER, but the awesome staff!

Went for brunch. Waiters were nice but the service was very slow. The restaurant's space was narrow, full of people and loud. My spaghetti and meatballs was okay but my partner's gnocchi was tasteless. Overall, we were not happy about the experience.

Went here today for my birthday (lunch) and kind of disappointed... Staff was very attentive, but we had like 5 different servers? We felt rushed, they kept asking if we were done? It wasn't super packed so not sure why we were We were VERY EXCITED to try this place and had high hopes, but unfortunately this place fell short. We had: -brussel sprouts w/ crostini (appetizer) - $9 -gnochhi w/ tomato sauce- $15 -lasagna- $17 Brussel sprout appetizer was pretty good, but only came with 3 crostini and the entire appetizer was overall pretty small. Gnocchi was pretty good, but the sauce was bitter. Lasagna was burnt on the edges and couldn't eat about 1/4 of it due to it being so badly burnt :( Lunch portions were small unfortunately and still pricey $15-17. Overall, might give this place a second try but not anything special :(

I've been a Sunset/West Portal local for coming up on 6 years now. I've seen businesses come and go, and Trattoria da Vittorio has some lasting power. When my girlfriend and I walked in we were immediately greeted by multiple members of the wait staff and seated almost right away. Upon sitting we were simultaneously brought waters and a small serving of bread and olive oil to begin the evening. After a few introductions from the wait staff, we placed our order of bruschetta topped with Burrata cheese and prosciutto. She ordered the San Daniele pizza and I ordered the pesto gnocchi with a special request of the usually lunchtime only pesto sauce. Within a few minutes the bruschetta had arrived. Before leaving the waitress took our order of a bottle of 2010 Sangiovese. For wine enthusiasts, this place has about the most thorough wine menu you will find besides the small import wine bars in West Portal. Our waitress promptly returned with a very customary opening of red wine, allowing me to smell and taste the bottle before offering it to the table. Before she could leave, the bruschetta followed. Now I've had your typical diced tomato and olive oil bruschetta, but this took the creativity trophy. Not only was the cheese sweet and complimentary, but the prosciutto was aged to perfection, providing an excellent texture to top off the small bite. Soon our entrees came. The San Daniele pizza was crisp, light, and very well balanced. Not too heavy on any one of the ingredients, while keeping the marinara sauce just light enough to provide a platform for the rest of the toppings to shine. My pesto gnocchi came out piping hot and literally soft enough to melt in your mouth. While the portion was a bit on the small side, the pesto itself was good enough to warrant asking for a to-go box just for the sauce. After dinner and wine was said and done, we turned our attention to the dessert menu. As a Sicilian myself, I had to try the cannoli. After a full meal, I also ordered a cappuccino, just to see how the wait staff's barista skills were. We were surprised to find that as our cannoli came out, we were also brought out a tiramisu order on the house! Within minutes, my foamy, full cappucino came out and satisfied everything I had looked for after a full meal. Not only that, but the cannoli wasn't overcooked, and wasn't overly sweet as well. However, the tiramisu was really what stole the spotlight at the end of the meal. I can't recommend you try this enough at Trattoria. Overall, the staff was charming and hospitable (in particular the owner Vittorio, who takes his time to speak with each and every table), the food felt home-made and traditionally prepared, and the environment just what West Portal was lacking. 5 stars! Can't wait to come back and try the Veal and the Pollo Milanese!

I met my cousin here for lunch last week and between Yelp and a suggestion from her husband's friend, we tried it. It was so good that I brought my husband back 3 days later and he liked it as much as my cousin and I did. Both times I had the sandwich that they serve on pizza dough bread with burrata chese, meatballs and marinara sauce. Since I'm the kind of foodie who likes to eat each ingredient solo, I requested the sandwich to arrive deconstructed. They happily obliged. It came with a nice salad, and they allowed me to substitute beet salad for the regular one. Yum. The burrata cheese was a whole party in my mouth, as were each of the other ingredients. I paired burrata with the plain pizza dough bread and it was a knock out. The meatballs and sauce were a perfect stand-alone. My cousin had the same thing, but the regular way. She loved hers too....and when we returned my husband had the same thing and loved it. This will be a destination to frequent relatively often. I'm so grateful to have found it. Oh, and the wait staff are extremely helpful, friendly and just plain very nice! As I revisit and try other things, I will revisit my rating. Based on what I had it would get 5 stars. Highly recommended

We met a friend here while we were in town last week. It was really great! The service was incredibly attentive and food came out fast. The pasta tasted homemade and sauces were fresh. The kids menu included veggies which I always appreciate! They also had our daughter's food out quickly. I thought the prices were a little high but overall, it was very enjoyable.

Ok well I actually sad that this review will be a mixed bag...went today 8/22 for lunch with gf...we ordered calamari, two panini one calabresi /spelling?? the other grilled chicken...the calamari was super, I am Greek and I will tell u it was fabulous! Now the bad part...we got fries and salad...they mixed what plate each belonged, not really a problem but the fries were cold so was the calabresi... My chicken morphed in ham? My gf doesn't eat pork, she almost puked when she took a bite of my sandwich thinking it was chicken! I told the waiter and he took it off bill and brought a taramisou to make up for it...I feel bad writing this review! Major screw ups I will try again see if its better! But nice try to fix...

Went for birthday dinner with family (including 8 yr old) and was fantastic. Waitstaff were attentive but not overbearing. I got the gnocchi and they added a meatball as an extra. They make the gnocchi onsite and it was excellent. My son ordered the pizza and it was highly rated by both him and parents. Previous reports on low key atmosphere right on. A great meal and experience without having to worry about attire. Dessert was also great, definitely try the profiterole.

The spaghetti with meatballs was delicious. The pasta was al dente and the meatballs were very juicy. The pizza was great! I will come back to this restaurant.

The place was fine overall. We would love to visit again after everything settles in. Our appetizers and main dishes were good to strong. The short ribs were excellent. Our kids' entries (butter pasta, cheese pizza, and Italian sausage) also were solid, although the sausage used arguably was not Italian sausage. The one weak entrée was the wild boar paparadelle, which required more meat (the sauce was thin). Desserts were mixed. On the one hand, the salted caramel ice cream and tiramisu were fantastic. On the other hand, the coffee panna cotta was unsweetened. This meant that it tasted off if eaten without the whipped cream. (Those who loved the old Café for All Seasons panna cotta will be disappointed.) The wait staff was super enthusiastic, and the owner personally said hello -- a nice touch. But there were some service wrinkles that should iron themselves out over time. E.g., the waiter poured much more than the initial taste from our bottle of wine. He also took down the wrong order for my son (this was understandable -- the place is quite loud), and the two of our kids' dishes arrived several minutes after our entrees arrived. Although the staff's enthusiasm more than compensated for these issues, they do need to be addressed over time.

Just had dinner here with my wife. We were greeted by the staff as soon as we entered and seated right away...thankfully we arrived at the beginning of dinner service since it got full soon after! Bonus for those that had to wait a few minutes - and I mean just a few minutes - they were served a sparkling wine while they waited by Vittorio himself. Extremely personable and attentive as the host and owner. Our server was among the most engaging that we have ever experienced. June was knowledgeable, had great recommendations, and made sure we were taken care of throughout the meal. Now the best part - the food! We had the calamari and caprese appetizers. The calamari was light and tasty, the mozzarella that was part of the caprese with the heirloom tomatoes was as good as any I have had in Italy. We also sampled the Margherita pizza...crisp, thin crust, fresh toppings, and freshly grated Parmigiano cheese on top - Molto bouno! Appetizers done, we moved to the pastas. My spaghetti and house made meatballs was simple but incredibly tasty and done perfectly! When a restaurant pays as much attention to the simple fare as they do to more complicated dishes, THAT'S a recipe for success. My wife had one of the special pasta dishes with house made pasta "purses" with pear and Gorgonzola in a rich cream sauce...wow! I only was able to score one from her before she protected her plate from my prying fork! The wine we had was a good Chianti that served us well throughout the meal. Lastly, dessert. We had to try June's top three which were the Tiramisu (a classic done extremely well), the caramel gelato (with sea salt and drizzled with an extra virgin olive oil), and the Nutellino calzone (hazelnut chocolate made from scratch inside a softer, chewier version of the pizza crust)...all I can say is that there is nothing like an abundance of awesome tastiness to finish off the meal and solidify the sugar coma! All in all, an excellent experience on all fronts! Prices were exactly what I anticipated for what we received in portion size and quality - which were both perfect for us. Vittorio - you have put together a winning combination. We are your newest "regulars"! Grazie!

I really wanted to like this place and there were definite high points, but overall, we left feeling let down. When ordering, I asked for a wine pairing with my dinner, something red. I usually am offered a couple choices to choose from, whatever the staff thinks is best. In this case, the waiter just marked it down and moved on to my date. Unusual. However, the wine was a great pairing and was not the most expensive on the list. I was quite happy with the selection. The only down side is that my first glass arrived quite warm when it should have been served slightly below room temp. The second glass was perfect. We ordered the calamari appetizer which is calamari and fried artichokes mixed. Portion size was quite large, but I wanted more artichokes. The artichokes we did get were either burned or limp and as a whole, the dish was quite salty. I really like salt, but this was too much. Before we could finish our appetizer, our entrees arrived. My mushroom risotto should have been good, but it lacked salt. The Wild Boar pasta arrived with the noodles stuck together and the boar on the dry side. We were also surprised to see the folks next to us seated before the table had been cleared from the party before them. We were sent a complimentary dessert which was great - pizza dough with nutella inside served with whipped cream. Delicious! Service was warm and welcoming and everyone was very friendly. The outside patio is great for warm San Francisco nights and the inside is very cute. The sound level when packed is still low enough to hold a conversation with your date. If the kinks in the timing and food can be worked out, I think this restaurant has definite promise!

OMG, I love it!!!!! I feel like I just visited Italy. The restaurant itself is clean and very cozy. You can either sit at the bar and look into the fire or at the table and be serviced by beautiful, Italian man. Guess what I chose :) Water is brought in bottles, clean, purified, just right temperature. The food is a completely different subject. It was amazing, I had salmon with greens, the portion size (for me at least) was just right. I will come back and I highly recommend this restaurant. Enjoy the service and the foods.

I've been here twice and really enjoyed the experience both times. The wait staff is attentive, they all seem to be Italian which adds to the great environment. It's pretty cosy and close quarters, they could use a few less tables but it gives you a chance to chat with the other patrons. I've had pasta and salmon, great.. A very nice lady shared her tomato and mozzarella salad..it was the best..then she shared her dessert. Wasn't that nice!!! Wine pours are generous.

Please don't eat here. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else. Read all the bad reviews and ignore the good reviews. OK, go ahead and try this place -- but only on nights when my family and I aren't trying to get a table. Often, the line to get in is out the door and I don't want to wait 20-30 minutes for a table. So please, go to Goat Hill or Paradise Pizza or Olive Garden. The roasted beet salad is amazing and the margherita pizza is perfectly slightly overcooked. So good. Local, repeat customers are treated so amazingly well -- the staff from Vittorio to the waitstaff to the bus boys treat us like long last family every time we come. Regulars know what I'm talking about. So yes, this place can get really crowded and loud. If you're a party of two, sitting at the counter works, but more than that gets tough to have a conversation. When the place is really crowded (which is often), service can be slightly slow, so don't come here if you're in a hurry. And one last plea to not patronize this place -- except when I'm not here. :)

In a city abundant with great restaurants, I wonder why it's so difficult to find a decent Italian place. Unfortunately, Trattoria Da Vittorio was one of the worse! As I always do when I'm trying a new restaurant, I ordered one of the simplest things on the menu, Calzone. I thought the likelihood of having a bad Calzone was slim ... about as likely as having bad pizza, right? ... wrong! Suffice to say, it was awful! A friend of mine ordered the Italian Sausage Panini, which resembled gyro meat stuck between a loaf of bread, and she hardly finished her meal. The service was fine, nothing exception or impressive. The owner did come by our table to see if everything was ok, but our waitress looked as if she was bored, literally plopped the gigantic water bottle on the table without bothering to open it or fill the glasses. I'm always surprised how bad the service is at these restaurants who obviously try to achieve an upscale setting. They don't seem to understand that being "upscale" doesn't mean just having sleek tables and chairs but the quality of the food and the level of service they provide to their patrons. TDV had neither.

Whatever you order, you will be amazed at the flavors - - take you right to Italy. If you have not been, you MUST get there!!! Atmosphere is casual and comfortable, open air kitchen lets you see the food being prepared if you sit at the bar area along that area. Vittorio loves what he does and loves sharing the flavors of Italy AND his mission is to make sure that your experience is all that you hope for. They even have outdoor seating right out front when the weather is fabulous as it can be in North Beach. AND you have to try the Nutellini.

Outstanding meal and service. We walked in not knowing what to expect and were treated to some of the best service I've ever had. They were especially accommodating to our small kids which isn't always the case at a lot of places. Everything we ate had great flavor and was very authentic. I can't wait to go back and to bring our friends!!!!

I didn't know what real Italian food was until I spent a month in Italy on my honeymoon. Since then, my wife and I have searched high and low in this city to find real Italian that is reasonably priced and doesn't take a month to get in. Finally! Just got home from our first visit and we can't wait to go back. This is a warm, homey atmosphere where the pasta is fresh, the tastes are authentic and the waiters\waitresses are friendly and knowledgeable. Wife had a seafood pasta dish with fresh pasta and some of the most succulent salmon I've tasted with all the shellfish you'd expect. delicious. I went for the braised ribs and polenta. The ribs were so tender they fell apart when i gave them a dirty look. polenta was good, but not mind blowing. Both dishes were recommended by the waiter, Lorenzo. good job on that. We ordered the Nutella canzone to go. Lorenzo brought us tiramisu on the house while we waited. you can get great authentic Italian pizza at gialina, Delphin and several other places now. I may not have any pizza here for a while because of that and the fact that their other dishes look to be on par with the good pizza you can get these days, but is so much more elusive. good Italian that isn't pizza is such a score in this city and we scored with this likely soon to be fave. this place isn't as good as the best restaurants we ate at in italy, which is why 4 stars and not 5. it's close enough to make grin from ear to ear, though. gratzie!!

Maybe They Rushed Everything I heard high praises about this place of its great service and amazing food. So we tried it on a Friday night. First we got the risotto as an appetizer. It smelled delicious but didn't taste like anything. I think the chief forgot to season it. Then my entree was one of the Friday night specials, veal osso bucco over polenta. Although the my food was good, everything there are in small portions and over priced. My wife's pasta was so al dente that it can barely be described as cooked. Food: C+ The restaurant itself looks nice from the outside. The inside is a bit small. There is only one small aisle between the tables for you to walk in and out of the restaurant. I didn't feel like I can lean back on my chair and relax. The service was fast because the waiters and servers almost jog up and down the aisle. They also yell at each other so much it make the place loud. Atmosphere: C I think you can find a better experience somewhere else and maybe even spend less.

Oh.My .Gosh. If I could give this place 5.5 stars I would. SOOO TASTY! We had the gnocci with Gorgonzola sauce, spinach ravoli in pesto, and the caprese con burrata. The gnocci was very tasty, clearly homemade. Loved the gorgonzola sauce - it was thick and flavorful, but NOT overpoweringly thick/creamy (like some places Ive been - its creamy but just the right amount, not trying to drown out the gnocci). The spinach ravoli in pesto was tasty too but boyfriend polished most of it off :) By far though, my favorite dish - and the one frankly I'd come back just for - is the Caprese. I LOVE caprese salad and this was the most amazing one I'd ever had. Big, beefy tomatoes, delicious, high quality balsamic vinaigrette sauce and olive oil...mmm...totally worth the price. Will definitely check it out again next time I'm in the city!

As a fifteen year resident of the neighborhood I have to say it is rather nice to endorse a relatively new gem located right in the center of West Portal Ave. I've become a regular patron of the Trattoria since it opened several months ago. By chance I wandered past the restaurant to find it transformed into one of the most inviting and welcoming restaurants West Portal has seen in years. Many of the locals I know mention how it has revitalized the street and there is little doubt judging by the long line that forms daily around 6pm. Approaching the Trattoria pretty much guarantees you are met with a warm greeting, hearty handshake and an authentic welcome - every time. I only wish other establishments could learn from this practice. Dining here feels like you are walking into a big inviting Italian family dinner. I love having a choice of eating on the heated patio (I have a dog), the dining room with guests or the long marble bar when I'm dining solo. I have a fairly restrictive diet so focus on some favorites including beet salads; antipasto and an amazing brussels sprout special made with bacon and gorgonzola. I could go on and on but trust me and go experience for yourself. On a final note the place is always spotless. That's very important to me and I have a keen eye. I often eat at the bar and I notice the small hand sink and how all the waiters and kitchen team just glide past and frequently wash hands.

Overall, a very good Italian restaurant considering the value that you are getting. High quality food at very reasonable prices. We had a Margherita pizza (great value at $13 since they get the dough perfectly right....not something many places do and topped with a decent sauce and decent cheese), the Antipasta of Arugula and Burrata was tasty, the Gnocchi with Pesto was tasty, the Lasagna......Mamma Mia!!! The Lasagna... I don't know what drugs they put in there but it tasted astounding. Absolutely fabulous! Certainly the highlight of what was served that day. It's rare to find such an amazing Lasagna. The Tiramisu was decent and the espresso decent, too. Overall, the value proposition is killer. Our new go-to restaurant if we're hungry after going to the zoo or otherwise visiting in that part of town. Friendly service and very kid-friendly, too. We were there with our 3 year old.

Amazing food, friendly service... The pizzas and bruschetta are among the best in the City. The service is impeccable. We are always treated well, like guests in their home. The brussels sprout appetizer dish with bacon is amazing. I also recommend the basic spaghetti and meatballs. It is the best I ever had.

It had been years since I actually had Italian food in a restaurant, so a friend of mine and I decided to check this place out. I had the vegetarian ravioli with pesto and the lentil soup. Both were great. Our waiter, Roberto, was fantastic. He and the rest of the waitstaff never made us feel rushed, despite how busy the place was. Honestly, the service here is the best I've experienced in San Francisco to date. Definitely going back.

Our host and the restaurant's owner Vittorio personally treated me to a meal that was filled with delicious food and amazing service. In all fairness my friend and I were served this meal complimentary as a way to show off what food to order when we do return in the future. Although the place was packed for a Thursday evening dinner. We started with an amazing sampler of all of Trattoria Da Vittorio's Bruschetta dishes. They were all amazing! And then we sampled their amazing gnocchi with three sauces: pesto, marinara and white sauce. It was like a real life Italian Flag. They we sampled an amazing Short Rib dish with a side of potatoes and squash. And then it tasting was their truly unique Eggplant Parmesan topped with a layer of Creamy Polenta. Delish! Then it was dessert time where we sampled their Tiramisu and a Pastry filled with Nutella. A true Italian treat! All in all it was a divine meal filled with amazing food and even more amazing service. I will return as a paying customer one day because I love good well thought-out Italian food, which this was, which was topped off with an amazing dining experience! Go for the food, return for Vittorio the amazingly caring owner who puts love and respect in his food and customer service!

Superb, superb, superb. Wonderful and delicious food! Enjoyed the homemade gnocchi with alfredo sauce. The customer service was excellent. The waiter was attentive and asked how everything was and if we needed anything. The owner also made stops by to see if we were enjoying our lunch. We were given complimentary desserts by the owner. They were out of this world yummy. It really made my birthday a special day with my friends. Thank you my friend for treating me and thank you to Trattoria Da Vittorio.

My wife and I discovered Trattoria Da Vittorio about a month ago and have been there about five times for lunch or dinner. The entrees and antipasti have been exceptional, topped off with a superb dessert menu and usually a cappuccino. The house red wine in a generous serving, a SuperTosca, is excellent. We usually ask to be sitted at a table by the pizza bar, or by the long wall, or today at a table with a view of the outdoor tables and West Portal Avenue. The waiters always make us comfortable ordering, bringing anything else we need, confidently friendly, and very helpful overall. At our second time at the Trattoria, the owner, Vittorio, was there and quickly introduced himself, readily making us feel at home. We live in the Outer Sunset and now consider the Trattoria to be our first choice for lunch or dinner. Others we frequent are the Bistro and Sutro Room at the Cliff House, Pacific Cafe, The Beach Chalet/Park Chalet, the Nordstrom restaurant at Stonestown, the YuYu Sushi Restaurant at the Sloat Shopping center, and Spruce at Laurel Village. The Trattoria Da Vittorio truly is five star and we heartily recommend it -- a great West Portal location with surprisingly easy street parking. ...A place easy to recommend with pride and confidence as very special in the City.

Fiance said, after walking out of this restaurant, "I think I'd rather go to Olive Garden." Maybe we caught them on an off night? Or none them have been to Italy? Or none of them have even been to Tony's and had the Margherita pizza there, which, and I've searched long and hard for this, is the closest thing to the pizza I had in Naples. Our little group of 3 walked in around 5:15 PM and were seated immediately. The inside was very warm and welcoming, a true neighborhood joint. We noticed a larger group a few tables down, with about 5 children between the ages of 6 and 10. The children were shrieking and laughing and chattering away so loudly that the adults had to raise their voices to speak to one another. The sheer volume of that table's conversations made it impossible for us to hear each other, even though we were sitting right next to each other. Finally I shot a glare towards that table, and one of the adults told the children that they needed to quiet down a bit. Luckily they were almost done, so we only had to endure the noise for a bit longer. This immediately downgraded my first impression of the restaurant, because whenever you have a LOUD group of children with adults who don't teach them to use their "inside voices," you're basically nothing more than an Applebee's. Ugh, I sound like a snob, but it's totally true. Since I'd read great reviews of the Margherita pizza, the pappardelle with wild boar ragu, and the gnocchi, we decided to order all of those, and my aunt added in the pumpkin ravioli. We were served bread and olive oil (but no balsamic vinegar, which I found odd), and our Margherita pizza came very quickly. Fiance also ordered the insalata mista, which he said had zero flavor or seasoning, as it was some leafy greens with olive oil and nothing else. I was so excited because our Margherita looked amazing, until I took my first bite. There was absolutely no flavor or seasoning. The sauce was plain, the dough/crust was plain.. I could have basically been eating a handful of flour. Once I added a pinch of salt onto the pizza, it magically transformed. But seriously, if you're going to hail yourself as an Italian restaurant, I shouldn't need to shake the salt over the food myself. My gnocchi, while very tender and pillowy soft, was also completely flavorless, as was the tomato sauce. It got me wondering if they had actually opened a can of tomato sauce, because it looked and tasted EXACTLY like a can of generic, unsalted and unseasoned tomato sauce. The same sauce was used in the wild boar ragu, and the meat was dry and tough. We had NO desire to have dessert after the meal; Fiance and I are both big eaters, but neither of us wanted to finish our meals. I'm sorry, Trattoria da Vittorio, did you run out of seasoning or something last night? Because nothing I had there made me want to return. Italian food is supposed to be cooked with love and zest, but nothing about our dishes last night came close.

Three of us went there for dinner just a week after I had been in Verona, Italy. The food didn't measure up to true Italian. Pizza from the Napoli oven was very good -- thin, but slightly charred crust. Risotto was just ok. Rigatoni with meat sauce was just ok, but enjoyed by my daughter. Very tasty bread with olive oil was complimentary. Food was 3.5 to 4 stars and a little on the expensive side (although portions were large). So why the 5 stars, you ask? Because the owner and staff are trying so hard to make your experience a memorable one. The owner welcomed us and wished us a good meal. When I told him I had just come back from Italy and that I loved the little dry hot peppers in oil they gave to spice things up, he immediately ran to the kitchen and brought back a huge jar of peperoncino intero in olio. He is from Calabria (the "toe" of Italy's "boot"), known for these spicy peppers. His mother is coming over from there soon. I could sense he was very concerned with getting the restaurant in shape for a mother's approval. Such a nice man. You can't help rooting for him to make this a success.

We had a margherita pizza, penne pasta with capers and olives, and ravioli stuffed with artichoke and ricotta with pesto. The food was great and had a good taste. The pesto sauce was amazing. Also you can tell the waiter you are vegetarian and he will offer some specials not on the menu. Though the food I had didn't fill me too well. Took a long time to get Tiramasu which was worth the wait too. Overall the food and restaurant was elegant. Food was delicious and service very attentive and friendly!

I've been here three times. Best food and best service I've had in the Bay Area. Also, they seem to only employ hot men which is an added bonus. Best pizza I've ever had, and I'm a fat, fat pizza-eating man. I would eat here every night of forever if I could.

I live in the area and finally had the chance to enjoy dinner at Trattoria last night. My daughter and I didn't have reservations and although it was crowded, we were seated right away. We received excellent service and we loved the food. I had the Halibut special and my daughter had the Caprese salad. The food was terrific and we look forward to going back. I' also liked the way the room was re-arranged (from the previous layout) to include a bar to eat/drink at. Good restaurants always do well in the west portal area and this one should do very well!

Great neighborhood restaurant. Went there for the first time this weekend and had a great meal. I'm an east coast pizza snob and found the pizza here to be delicious. Just the right balance of char and chew in the crust and the sauce had the perfect amount of sweetness. The tiramisu was also lovely.

I was so looking forward to the experience of this new local eatery. The lines are long as is the wait to be seated. I thoroughly enjoy the interior makeover from the old Café for All Seasons, which was LONGGG in the tooth for change after having fallen into the hands of do nothing proprietors who cared nothing for a well-established clientele and who ran the business into the ground. I was seated almost immediately as a party of one at the counter. Frankly, I don't care for the wide screen TV - this is not a sports bar or BJs in Tanforan. The waiter was cordial and perfunctory. I was to be surprised by him at the conclusion of the meal when he refilled my wine glass - gratis. Very nice... hence the second star. I ordered the gluten free pasta with a meat Bolognese sauce after completing the house "MIsta" salad. The salad was so lacking in dressing, content, and flavor as to be almost 'dry' for want of attention - a pile of greens and nothing more for $8... Geezzz. Disappointment number one. The gentleman preparing salads was more interested in the TV I suspect as he was standing in front of me preparing the salads and busily conversing in Italian with a fellow employee - equally fixated on a soccer game in Spain as he shoved pizzas into an awaiting oven. I asked the waiter to bring me a glass of Merlot with the main course. Instead, it appears while I'm eating my bland and flavorless salad. The wine was the best event of the evening - one of the best Merlot's I've ever consumed. After finishing the salad, I watched soccer (bored me to tears). The orders for two different groups of customers on each side of me were botched and improperly prepared. They were sent back. The waiter made it right on both accounts, but I was now on high alert. Both parties looked equally disappointed and stared aimlessly at their companions or the TV for lack of anything else to do. About five minutes later, the Bolognese shows up - steaming but looking a bit strange: it was very dark in color and with little to no hint of meat on first glance. The plate was sloppily presented with sauce splattered all over it. IT WAS THE MOST BLAND, TASTELESS AMALGAM OF TOMATO SAUCE and something else - I don't know what - that I've ever had at an Italian restaurant! Bring on the Olive Garden, folks. There were NO hints of garlic, meat, basil, oregano, seasoning - Italian or otherwise! $17 my friends. A bag of Tinkyada Gluten Free Pasta at Trader Joe's is $2.99... I could have purchased a can of Basil and Oregano Tomato sauce at Whole Foods up the street and had a better dining experience. That was the turning point for me: No $8 desserts. I was tired of the noise, the glaring TV screen, and a waiter who was more interested in patronizing me for a tip than asking if I enjoyed the meal (he didn't). I'll go across the street to the competition... You might want to do so, too, and avoid the lines. All told with a 15% gratuity: $45...... for at most $15 worth of food. Sad experience.

The best Italian restaurant outside Italy! Authentic, fresh, delicious food with a delightful staff and they'll make you feel at home. A great experience time and time again!

Mom took us to dinner at Trattoria da Vittorio for my birthday. She lives in the neighborhood and has eaten there a few times. We arrived early because the restaurant doesn't take reservations and we wanted to get a table. We arrived about 5:30pm and the restaurant was almost full. It's very, very loud in there and my mom is elderly, so her hearing and eye-sight isn't great. I had to shout what was on the menu because it was incredibly loud in the restaurant. Please, please put some carpet on the floor to quiet it down in there and perhaps a bench with pillows at the entrance, so the people waiting to east can at least sit down. The waiter arrived and told us the specials. The halibut with prawns sounded great, which Mom and my other half ordered. I noticed gluten-free pasta and asked what kind of pasta and what it comes with, re: fish? chicken? veal? beef? veggies? The waiter didn't know and asked the chef. He subsequently advised that they will prepare a gluten-free penne made of corn with whichever sauce I'd like. I opted for the veal marsala instead, as that was served with potatoes. Mom and I ordered their beet salad with Arugula and my other half started with the fried calamari. Mom had a glass of chardonnay and I asked the waiter to recommend a red. He suggested the Chianti La Maialina and I agreed. My other half ordered a Coke. Sliced baguette was on the table with olive oil, but it needed salt, so I tapped salt into the olive oil, which made a difference. The salads arrived and both were well-covered with red wine vinegar, but there wasn't any noticeable olive oil on the Arugula, which made the salad overly tart. The fresh beets were a good counter to the vinegar on the salad, but it really needed olive oil. The calamari came with an unusual and delicious sauce made of olive oil, basil, and mint. The combination of these ingredients was fabulous, and unusual for fried calamari. The sauce for the veal marsala was excellent and a generous portion was served. However, the veal was pounded very, very thin and there was a very small amount of meat on the plate. Instead there was a generous portion of purple cabbage, spinach, and carrots with one or two small red potatoes sautéed. The halibut with prawns was very good and the sauce was amazing! Mom also had the brussel sprouts with ricotta cheese. She loved them(!). Unfortunately, when the sprouts were served the waiter neglected to tell us that the container was heated. I picked up the sprouts container to put it on Mom's plate and burned my fingers. THEN the maitre d warned that the container was heated. Gee, thanks. It was impossible to have a conversation at the dinner table because the it was so loud in the restaurant, which really takes away from dining out. The staff were all very friendly and mindful of the line of people waiting to sit down to eat. In fact, the moment I finished my last sip of wine, the busboy took my glass from the table. Our plates were also cleared very quickly. It felt like we were being rushed out of there. But because it was my birthday, we ordered dessert and coffee. I had the chocolate mousse and Mom got the tiramisu. Both were excellent and we each were served a large portion of each. The whipped cream atop the chocolate mousse was lightly sweetened and incredibly good. The bill for dinner was $171 before tip. $200 for three people is a reasonable amount, especially since the food was so good. I would note that if you're hungry, don't order the veal marsala. Even with the vegetables and potatoes, it was not a lot of food. The halibut special offered a more generous portion with the prawns, potatoes, and vegetables.

Excellent food and the service is impeccable. I have tried both the Pepperoni and the Salciccia pizzas, and they were exquisite. The owner is a very nice man as well. Do yourself a favor and plan a trip to this wonderful new restaurant.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city, and I'm so glad it is in West Portal! Great atmosphere, great food...I'm a regular and have tried quite a few different things on the menu. Lamb with gnocchi is delicious, as well as good old pizza!

Went there yesterday for my kid's 4th birthday. The restaurant is very cute. It was completely full by 6 p.m. - mostly families with kids and retired folks. I really appreciated the fact that this restaurant has a kids menu - so few in San Francisco do! I am guessing the clientele changes if you go later. The owner - Vittorio - greeted us at the door and came by to check on us a few times. He obviously really cares and seems like a really nice guy. The wait staff was very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. So, 5 stars for service. The food was hit-and-miss. The menu is a mix of what seem to be Southern Italian and Tuscan selections. My husband had the calzone and said it was one of the best he'd had outside of Italy. I had the papardelle with wild boar ragu. It was OK - a little underseasoned, and the boar could have used more braising. It did not come close to the pasta I'd had in Tuscany or in the South of Italy. But not bad for a neighborhood Italian restaurant. The kid had the Micky Mouse pizza. It was pretty disappointing. The idea was cute, but the "ears" of the mouse were just dough. The actual pizza part of this pizza - i.e. the part with sauce and cheese - had the diameter of a large orange. My son was still kind of hungry after he finished his food because he didn't eat the crust. The desserts were great: the grown-ups shared a lemon tartuffo drenched in limoncello (yum!) and the kid had a chocolate tartuffo, which he polished off despite an abundance of nuts. Wine by the glass selection is good. So, 3.5 stars for the food. 4 stars overall (food gets slightly heavier weighting than service :-) Request for Vittorio: it would be great if the kid's pizza were just a regular 6" round cheese pizza, preferably with shredded cheese instead of sliced Mozzarella (my kid was a little put off by having to bite through large chunks of cheese). And while we are on the subject of kid-friendly foods, some vanilla and chocolate gelato would be awesome too! Bottom line for us: we'll definitely come back for a nice dinner out with the kid. For Italian food on a date night, we'll probably choose some place that's a little fancier - like Flour + Water or Perbacco.

Antonio gave some of the best service I have ever had. I have managed a restaurant before and I would choose to have him teach my own employees how to give great service. Food was delicious, atmosphere great. And on a side note, prettiest bathroom I've ever seen in a business.

First visit here - and it was alright. We only had a pizza and it too was alright. The employees were very friendly, even though they botched our order (apparently didn't place it at all) , they fixed it pretty quickly and were quite pleasant about it. The pizza margherita was nice and thin, with nicely - properly slightly burnt crust. The sauce was really tasty, the pepperoni which we had added seemed under cooked (still chewy). There was a bit much cheese for me. I always see a really good margherita with a few slabs of mozzarella gracing the top, this had lots of cheese, almost like a regular pizza, not a fancy margherita. Nice fresh basil leaves on top too. The prices are very fair, especially for West Portal, where most things are a ridiculously priced joke. The restaurant is silly loud. Trying to talk to my date was like trying to hold a conversation at a club. It may be the acoustics in this building because the Cafe which was here before was also silly loud. They remodeled the interior and took away about half of the seating space with a bar seating area. I should say that the marble bar is really cool, and they have a bad ass pizza oven behind the bar area, which I'm sure cost them zillions of dollars. Overall I like the vibe, the menu, the staff. I think it's a good additional to my hood. This first visit was average, but the place has potential and I shall return to give it another shot, and update my review.

There are already a few good pizzerias on West Portal, but, this is an altogether new and different experience. Great authentic southern Italian pizza - baked in an Italian wood fire oven. Having lived in Italy for 5 years, I can say that this is the real deal.

THIS REVIEW IS MORE FOR OWNERS TO READ NOT A YELPER. Waiter gets NO STARS, owners get 5, and some points towards a star because I have a heart and cant give a new restaurant 1 star for it might damage their rep on yelp- averaged of 3 stars I came here last night with my sister and sat outside. The food was good and the owners were nice and checked in on us and other tables; However, our waiter was a complete jerk! First let me just tell you that I'm a sweet young looking girl. I'm 21 but easily mistaken for a 14-16 year old. My family owns a few restaurants, so I am always polite when out at dinner. Now, onto my waiter- hes a dude with a tragus peircing and a STRONG italian accent. It began when I asked a question and he started to slur his language out of his mouth as if I were an italian girl and could understand him. I kindly smiled and said "I'm sorry, I couldn't understand, can you slow down and repeat?" I meant well and really just wanted to know the answer to my question. He looked at me as if I were some annoying white amrican girl, then turned to asked my sister if she had any questions. He completely just ignored me and moved on. He came back around to our table about 10 min later to take our order. He looks at me and said "what do you want?", then turnes to my sister and said "miss, did you decide?" Thats when I started to realize he may not like me but I could be over analyzing, so I brushed it off. Clearly, I was not over analyzing. He came and gone to our table but asked ONLY my sister if everything was alright. Honestly, I don't really care if a waiter comes up to me and askes if i'm alright. If im not, im pretty good at being assertive but this did sting my soft heart a bit. Besides, the bus boy was doing an awsome job on asking us if we wanted any more water and if we were good with a welcoming smile. After we finished our main course is when he really started to get on my nerves. I had the nutella and my sister had the cheesecake. I shared mine and my sister had a few bites of hers but really liked the taste of mine, leaving us with an empty nutella plate and a to-go cheesecake. He comes around and again, looks at my sister and asked if she liked her cake and then to my surprise turns to me. Pause here for a moment- when he is turning to me, I automatically thinking, 'wow is he finally going to ask if everything was okay and if i liked my dish?'. WRONG! He says, "you ate it all?". His tone of voice was a bit dull. It came off rude. My sister caught that, too. Just to clarify that i'm not some sensitive "american girl". She saw my face get more annoyed everytime he opened his mouth, so she nicely asked for the check. He gives the little black booklet with a check of $72. something. I put in a $100 dollar bill and wait for him to pick it up. He comes over pulls out a bunch of cash from his pocket and askes me "how much do I owe you?". I looked at him implying 'Please do not do this over here;Take this to the register!'. Right then, I was shocked and even the table on the otherside of the window pointed with a surprised look on how he is handling this check. He slamms 1, $20 bill; 1, $5 bill; and 2, $1 dollar bills on the table. You think he cant get worst than this but he does. After throwing the money down, he just stands there staring at me, expecting me to hand him a tip right then and there. I looked at him like he was an idiot for doing this right here in the first place and to BACK OFF. I asked for 2, $10 bills in exchange for the 20 dollar bill he gave me. There's no way in hell, I was he giving a 20 dollar tip for a $72 bill and with an attitude like that he is on drugs. He came back with a stack of ones saying "ill exchange my ones for your 20". Yea, what smart thinking. I'm just going to give you 15 ones right back. Asking for smaller bills after a meal is kind of a known gesture of "I need change for tip". He counts out 5 ones and puts it on the table and STOPS as if he deserved the rest for himself. I look at him and said "umm okay wheres the rest?". When he finally puts 20 ones down on the table, I put the money that I had in my hand down (a 5 dollar bill and 2, 1 dollar bills), so I could count the ones. When I did this, he grabs the $5 bill instantly and walks away! Are you serious right now!?!?! What kind of watier handles money like that?? I still gave him a 20 percent tip because this guy is aboviously broke and he probably needs the cash more than I do if he has the nerve to be a money grubbing waiter. Plus my family always told me growing up about how waiters pay works, and how I should never tip lower than 20% even if your experience sucked but to alert the manager if your experience wasn't all that great. I'll return because the food was alright but it will be under a last resort option and If I get this waiter again, i'll ask for another.

I was going to give this place two stars, but when I went back and saw the amazing looking rigatoni on their webpage, and compare it to the rigatoni I was brought tonight, I simply can't. First, update your webpage. If you aren't going to take reservations, do not have a presence on OpenTable and don't put "for reservations call...." Also, either answer your phone, or update your message with your actual hours. The host was very warm and welcoming. Sadly this was the last time we felt that from the staff. The waiter was very off putting. He rushed us, but also made us feel unwelcomed. We could barely hear him over the noise (extremely noisy restaurant). The Caprese Burrata had a lovely consistency, beautiful heirloom tomatoes, but was over seasoned. Then the rigatoni. It was horrible. It was supposed to be a Bolognese sauce, the website shows a bolognese sauce... lots of meat. What I was served was a barely cooked tomato sauce with barely any meat minced so small you woudn't have known it was there. The sauce was unbalanced, too sweet, and tasted as if it has been cooked for 15-20min instead of the hours that a good bolongese should be cooked. We also had a pizza that was cooked well, but the dough was bland and needed salt. Finally, the restaurant looks like and is priced like it is trying to be classy, so having a flat screen television above the bar that is still part of the dining room playing sports is out of place and distracting, especially when you have bar patrons hooting and hollering during a play. Ambiance: Too loud and out of place TV. Food: poorly executed. Service: Host great, waiter not. Web: Needs to be updated with current restaurant policies.

I really really wanted to love this place. We have been patiently waiting during the remodel. I ordered the roasted beet salad. It literally had ONE beet, ONE strawberry with allot of arugula and TWO pine nuts. The waiter brought us bread and it was 2 little pieces. Despite having like 20 waiters around it took forever to get our food. That part should improve as they get setlled. The owner is the nicest man. My entree was OK but really expensive. I hope they can work out the kinks, but I fear their bottom line will drive people away. High prices and then they skimp on ingredients. West Portal needs a great family restaurant. Good cheap food and kid friendly. Unfortunately this is not it.

First time here. Great staff. Very friendly! Very clean and feels like an Italian Restaurant should. Since it's been a few months since I was there, I'll leave a short review and write an update after my next trip. Nevertheless, the place has ruined me as far as Italian food goes.

Sardines in a can! We were given a table alongside the bar where patrons were sitting a couple of feet away from us. This meant that wait staff had to constantly squeeze by--physically--to serve them and although they were apologetic about it, it soon got old. When you're eating $25 risotto you don't want some waiter's backside in your face. The food is not bad but I'm not sure it justifies the prices.

Wasn't very impressed with the food here. Our party ordered the spaghetti with meatballs, chicken milanesa, and a pasta dish with veggies and pink sauce (can't remember the name). The spaghetti with meatballs was not very impressive. The meatballs were listed on the menu as homemade, but they were very flaky and grainy - almost as if they had been frozen - and didn't really have any flavor. The sauces in both pasta dishes were also very bland and flavorless. The chicken milanesa with eggplant was okay, but not enough portion-wise to satisfy an appetite. I would have been fine paying what we paid had the food quality been authentic Italian, but we were pretty disappointed with our meals overall and didn't get the Italian fix we were craving.

Great food and great service! My parents, my brother and I came over one Saturday night. We were lucky that we came over in between the dinner rush and the very late rushers. So we got seated very quickly. The waiter was very attentive. And the food for the most part is great. I don't know what to think though, when the pasta (except pizza) is the weakest point of their menu. I was the only one who ordered the pasta (the ravioli) and although it was good, it wasn't great. My brother has come before, and he told me that their lasagna was good too but not great either. BUT their specials, soups, fish dishes, and their other secondi dishes were great. So delicious. My brother got pork chops (special of the day) and everyone loved it. Their soup (lentils) were not too salty and had a great flavor. And their fish dish was great too. Even the pizza (margherita) was very nice (delicious mix of tomato sauce and cheese). Among these amazing dishes, the pasta was a bit of a letdown. I expected since it was an Italian restaurant that they'd have amazing pasta dishes. Don't get me wrong, the pasta dishes are still good, but if I ever come back, I'll go straight to the secondi section or their specials and finish off with their dessert (tiramisu, and/or their nonna's cake/dessert, sorry forgot the exact name).

The service was really good, very friendly when we walked in. It was a really busy friday night but they were still able to seat us in 15 minutes. The gnocchi and salmon was really good. The braised short ribs were a bit dry. Looking forward to trying more items on the menu.

This place is definitely worth the wait. The first time here I ordered the mushroom risotto, it was so delicious I finished the whole plate, my friend ordered the monk fish, the fish was very fresh but a bit over cooked. The bruschetta was definitely fresh but the arugula salad needed a little more dressing. The caramel gelato with a dash of sea salt tops it all! So I went back the following week with my family. On my second visit, the place was still busy on a Thursday night. The waiter was so nice to our two kids and made everyone feel right at home. I ordered the gnocchi, unfortunately, I think they were too soft for my taste although the sauce was very good. We had the lamb shank, bruschetta sampler, calamari, lasagna and two kids' meals, they were all wonderful! Obviously we ordered the ice cream, it didn't come in the beautiful tall glass last time but we were given bigger portions and complimentary tiramisu which was pleasant. I'm definitely going back. I wish they would take reservations though.

Great service. Our waiter (Italian accent, shaved head with glasses) was awesome. If I has just one request to make it would be to have options for arugula and garlic cloves added to your pizza.

I love this place. My favorite dishes are the beet salad and the chicken with eggplant. The pizzas are authentic and fresh! Everything here is made with love and I appreciate that. And I appreciate the fact it isn't some snobby hipster foodie place. Its a great Italian restaraunt, where you can feel comfortable just being who you are, enjoying good food and good portions. Plain and simple. No kale chips here:) lol

Unfortunately, we will add this place to the long list of subpar West Portal restaurants. The bread they serve here is an embarrassment for an Italian restaurant. We shared the caprese salad which was not so bad. Had two entrees: the pasta special and the lasagna. My boyfriend liked the special, but I thought it was overly sweet and otherwise bland. My lasagna was soggy and flavorless. The beef was ground so finely that it created a strange texture and reminded me of something from a can. One positive was the friendly and fast service. Sorry, Trattoria.

We here last night with a party of 16 to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was wonderful. I'm Italian so I am really fussy about my Italian food. The calamari was delicious. The dried meats and bruschetta were very good. I had the special risotto and tasted the veal , the osso bucco, the pizza, the lobster ravioli and the gnocchi. It was all delicious and needless to say we packed a lot to go home. The service was excellent and we felt that every detail was taken care of. We will definitely return.

I met some friends for dinner on opening night @ Trattoria Da Victtorio . To put it in a nutshell The place looks great ! is homie and welcoming ! . The lights were to brite you mite want to dim a little . The servers were so attentive and nice : ) . The Antipasto was Delicios : ) The pizza was tasty : ) The pasta came out in a flat plate it looked runny and plain . The marrinera sauce needs work is bland and watery and it got cold half way eating it . Maybe if you serve it in a deep round pasta plate it would keep warm longer . The deserts were wonderful. : ) I gave it 4 stars because I think this restaurant has a lot of potential . I'm defenetly coming back ! : ) I'm going to give them a couple of weeks to settle down . Good luck and welcome to west portal : )

Thrilled to have a great new Italian restaurant in West Portal. We took the kids here over the weekend and were very pleased. The food was fantastic. We had the brussells sprouts and bruschetta as appetizers. Both were fantastic. Our pasta dishes were excellent and we had the sorbets, which were also amazing for dessert. The service was great and the owner checked in on us several times, which was a nice touch. We'll definitely be back.

This has become one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Recently I chose this place to entertain my out of town guests ---they are from Michigan and loved the place, I have become a regular customer and frequently have one of my favorite dishes--Rigatonis and meat balls---tastes exactly what my mother made every Sunday for dinner. The meatballs are delicious, and I have never been sick from them or any thing else I have eaten there, .This is a vvery special place, and I highly recommend it to all!

This place is a great addition to the West Portal restaurant selection. It's a must go for Italian food! The cheeses, ham, sauces, breads, and salads were incredibly fresh. I can tell the food was top quality because even though I ate a good amount I did not feel heavy....ahhh, it was good food. Give it a try!

Great service and even better food. The owner of the restaurant felt bad for making our party of 4 wait longer than the 30 min he told us it would take, and as a result, gifted us with a bottle of red wine on the house. He then went even further! When we order 2 orders of bruschetta, he almost doubled the order. Continuing from that, the food was delicious and filling. The 10 plates we ordered were ALL wonderful. I would highly recommend dinner, but so save some time, make a reservation because the wait can be long.

I've been here twice, brunch and dinner, both times went home with the biggest smile over my face, me and my friends like to eat and we love more "the good cuisine" and price is not a limit for us when we enjoy every single bite of our meal... Here... not only we have enjoyed every single bite but also the prices are more than affordable! The place is very cozy, made us feel like we were in a friendly environment, the music selection is very accurate, and the staff are A M A Z I N G!!! Friendly, warm passionated but yet very professional, aaaaaaand the majority are 100000% ITALIANS. The owner is one charming southern italian man that knows how to welcome and treat his guest. The kitchen staff we have a lot to say about them, they all are professional rock stars chefs, and everything looked neat and efficient!!! the team works together like one big family, and its true that you will have your own waiter but if he is busy you will have the chance to meet and talk with other waiters that will care to run your food on time at your table, great selection of wine also. I absolutely recommend: Lasagna, pasta alla calabrese, pizzas all of them, and desert the nutellino is the bomb!!! they also have a good selection of antipasti and if ever think to try all of them you wont regret it... i had the chance to have different meals there bc ive always been there with large parties. dont try to make a reservation they don't rule like that, the secret is the first walk in sit asap, but they do their best to accommodate everyone, and if someone has to wait prosecco and small bites appetizers will be served out the door... now if you wont call this HOSPITALITY i dont have any other adjectives to describe it. In few words it deserves all the 5 stars i rated it. Its a warm sun ray in the foggy West Portal. They can also accommodate wheel chairs, and kids are more than welcome kids menu and crayons will entertain them while you are having this short trip to italy.

THE BEST LAMB DISH I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY 27 years! Lamb tasted delicious! Serving it with gnocchi was genius! Loved that dish! I will def be back!

Loved the food and the service. My message to the restaurant would be to install some kind of sound dampening. Could barely hear the waiter. One of the loudest restaurants I've been to. I wanted to stay and try a dessert but the noise got to me so we opted to skip it. I would definitely have to be I the mood to tolerate the noise to go back.

Living by West Portal is great. All the good places to eat. Well, let me tell you this place is worth a visit. The food is some of the best Italian food I've had. I took my wife and friend and we all ordered something different. We started with the calamari and it was delicious! It was served with pieces of artichoke and tarter sauce and a pesto sauce, which I had never thought of, but it was good! We weren't sure about the wine, so our (fantastic) waiter Lorenzo suggested a couple of different bottles. He even opened both for us to try before we chose the one we wanted. I had the spaghetti and meatballs, my wife had the wheat ravioli with pesto sauce, and our friend had the rigatoni. We all tried each others and we liked all the dishes very much. The deserts were to die for! Try the Nutella Calzone, it is delicious! Everyone was very friendly, the owner even stopped by our table to introduce himself. Lorenzo is one of the best waiters I have had, and we look forward to our next visit. It did get a little loud inside, but I think everyone was excited and talking about the great food. Even the people on either side of us where just as curios as we were when they brought a dish out. We were all quizzing each other comparing notes on the food we had. We never felt rushed to leave as some places do, to sit more people. Don't believe the reviews that have anything bad to say, go try it for yourself and you will see some GREAT service and taste some GREAT food! I think we found our new favorite spot for Italian food. Thank you all for a wonderful meal! We'll be back!

Delicious food! Lovely and personal service. It's crowded and successful because it's good and friendly. We had gnocchi, eggplant Parmesan, wild mushroom risotto, and pizza. everything was consumed, everything was shared: "you have got to taste this!" The wine list is good - try their Italian selections. This is a can't go wrong restaurant. Well, not quite. Don't try to get a table at 7:00 :-)

What a lovely neighborhood spot! Not only is the food delicious (highly recommend the pizza), Vittorio and his staff go the extra mile to make your evening special. My new favorite!

Stopped in with my group of 11. Everything ordered was relish. We ordered the lamb, seafood risottos, pizzas, pastas. We couldn't decide on appetizers and Lorenzo, our awesome waiter took it upon himself to bring out sampler bruschettas and various cured meats served with arugula and mozzarella. Lorenzo also recommended a great cecchi wine with our meal. For dessert, we got a delicious, pizza dough rolled Nutella spread served with fresh whipped cream, gelato and espresso, profiteroles, and tiramisu. Everything was delicious and the service was awesome. We are definitely coming back.

Just got back from dinner and I must say hubby and I are so happy we went here. The service and attention is five star from the bussers to the servers and pizza maker to the owner. The caprese burrata is delicious and we order it every time. I've had 2 pizzas, the Uovo and the San Daniele which were both perfectly crisp and slightly charred; they are thin crust made in their imported Italian pizza oven. My husband has had the petrale sole and the veal and he loved both of them. Also have had the salmon salad special which was delicious and fresh. One time we were comped a delicious tiramisu and another time the owner gave my husband a very generous wine pour. Well priced and lengthy wine list. Been living in the neighborhood for 5 years and this is by far my favorite restaurant in West Portal.

This is a new restaurant at 150 West Portal. They have a new Brick Oven from Napoli, Italy and it makes Pizza so tasty and the crust is so thin and the texture is so authentic to Napoli. This is a must try restaurant. The restaurant opened at 5 PM and it was full by 5:30 PM. I guess the reputation of this restaurant travels fast. I think this place just opened a few days ago. I certainly do recommend the pizza and the Lasagna. This place is on my list whenever I crave for Italian Food.

FANTASTIC Pizza -- best I have had outside of Italy. So happy to have this in the neighborhood. Was running errands in West Portal today and passed by and noticed 2 outside tables. I had my pup with me -- as usual -- and asked if it was ok for us to be outside. The owner said of course and we had a lovely lunch. Vittorio himself is utterly charming and very accommodating. Will be back for sure.

Fantastico! Trattoria Da Vittorio is an absolute gem. I am from Florence, Italy -born and raised- so I know good Italian food. And this is great Italian food! The affettati misti are fantastic, from the creamy burrata to the bresaola, prosciutto and mortadella. I got the rigatoni alla bolognese, reminds me of my moms cooking, and my boyfriend got the veil. Both were delicious. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, with outstanding service. The owner came out to talk to us and is absolutely delightful! So happy to have found this place. Must try the tiramisu, it's exquisite. Bravissimi!

The reviewer is more important than the review: I am an 82 -year-old retired professor and gourmet ccoking is my passion. My favorite vacation site is northern Italy, and I've eaten Italian food (or renditions of it) in more than a dozen countries. Vittoriio is producing 9 and 10 level food (it is as good as it gets) at 6 to 7 level pricing--in short, very fine food at bargain prices. The service is as excellent as the wonderful food, The venue is a subdued, pleasingly decorated large room with about two dozen tables and the pizza-building station and oven off to the side encircled by about a dozen counter seats. Noise level high, but not unusually so. The house wine is good and also a bargain (certainly so as compred to other S.F. restaurants of this caliber). I travel a 40 mile round trip to get up here from San Mateo: I think that says it all. Vittorio is a charming and accommodating host.

I had my best San Francisco Italian dinner ever at this restaurant - and I have been sampling Italian restaurants in SF for some 40 years. I went with my wife and a good friend a week or two after the place opened. There were some admitted kinks in the service but the charm and hard work of our wonderful waitress more than compensated. The food was simply fabulous from beginning to end. I had a special pasta dish - simply amazing with little pasta packets filled with sweet pear and covered in a wonderful sauce. I also had the caprice tomato/mozzarella dish as a starter and it was off the wall good. I do not remember what my wife and my friend had - but I do remember them raving about the food. Only downside is the incredible sound levels. It was hard to carry on a conversation because of the noise. I hope they work on this. I count myself lucky that I live about two blocks form this wonderful place. I will visit it often.

Had dinner here last night and what a fantastic addition to West Portal. Being greeted by the Vittorio felt authentically Italian! Our servers were delightful but equally impressive was the food. The brussel sprouts in ricotta appetizer is divine, pizza took me back to my first rip to Naples, crisp thin crust, fresh cheese slightly charred. The wild boar pasta and calzone were delicious. Energy in the place was great and so was dessert. The prices are extremely reasonable, we are definitely coming back! The only disappointment was we left our leftovers on the table. Ciao

I love this new hot spot in West Portal! The food is Authentic Italian and delicious. The calamari is fresh and crispy. Bruschetta is full of flavor. They also feature an excellent wine selection! The layer cake was an excellent compliment to our meal. The only thing better than the food is the customer service. Vittotio, the owner, was out front the whole time greeting customers and our server Giovanni was friendly and attentive and helped make our entire night memorable! Congrats to West Portal for such a wonderful new addition!

I guess we got there at a bad time. Went there for lunch today. Waiters were rushed and, in some cases, rude. We ordered two of "Mama's Specials," the lasagne and eggplant Parmesan. They were tasty but the centers were cold. This after being told we had to wait 10 to 15 minutes to prepare these orders. When the dishes did arrive, the waiter argued with my wife about whether she should have grated cheese added to her plate. My Italian Grandmother would have boxed my ears for serving one of her recipes cold. Don't think we'll return.

We started with the Fried Calamari. It was crispy and tender, but was not seasoned, so it was bland. I ordered orange juice for my children, which they provided without the lids. We had to ask another server for the lids. For entrees, we had Pappardelle with Ragu, Osso Bucco over risotto (the risotto still had some bite - some might like it that way, but I like mine a little more tender), gnocci in a gorgonzola cream sauce (very tender), veal scaloppini and a kids pasta and tomato sauce. There were no vegetables with any of the entrees and no sides of vegetables were offered on the menu, otherwise, I would have ordered some vegtables. The food did come quickly, which was appreciated since we had to wait for about 30 mins for a table. Half way through our entrees I noticed that they never brought us bread, though the tables around us were provided bread. We ordered tiramisu, the apple tart and the cannoli for dessert. As the evening went on, the noise level increased, so the waiter did not hear our complete dessert order. When he provided the check, without the tiramisu and apple tart, we informed him of the error, and he apologized, but I feel he should have made some concession, as they started cleaing the table with us still there, and we had to inform other servers that we were waiting for our dessert. They never provided us the correct number of settings. There were 6 of us, and when we were seated, there were only 3 settings on a table. We had to ask for the additional 2 settings, twice. When we ordered dessert, they only brought 4 forks - we had to ask for another 2 forks. Overall this place is OK. It could be good if they can (1) figure out how to control the noise level (my ears are still ringing), (2) be more consistent with the service, and (3) turn off the TV! Is this a sports bar or a nice restaurant??!!? The food is good, so if they make a few adjustments, this place could be a nice addition to West Portal.

After a so so dinner on my first visit I gave a second chance and I have to say it was one of the worst meals I've had in San Francisco. The waiter forgot two items and screwed up two others, my wife ordered a decaf latte, nope it was high test caffeinated and she was awake all night. I felt as if I had to manage the waiter throughout the meal. My entree was over cooked to the point of burnt, crusty and rock hard, it was awful. The only good item was the ice cream and they didn't make it, they just had to scoop it and put it in a bowl. I will not go back, I would give it zero stars if I could, in my opinion Spiazzo is so much better.

This is a great neighborhood restaurant. The eggplant Parmesan and lamb shank with butter/ sage gnocchi are delicious and the staff are warm, charming, and welcoming to kids. Kids menu is great- pasta with tomato sauce and breaded chicken that grown-ups would eat, too. I took away 1 star because they forgot to send our entree order to the kitchen, and another because it gets really crowded. So maybe you shouldn't go on Friday night, and it will be easier for us to get a table!

What a great addition to the West Portal scene! A totally authentic southern Italian restaurant. Tonight was their very first night. Although there were only ten reservations including ours, the place was mobbed as soon as Vittorio opened his doors. The neighborhood had been seeing the "Opening Soon" signs for months now and were anxiously awaiting this day. Vittorio and his staff handled the rush very well with grace and style and Italian warmth. And the food was all delicious. We had various appetizers such as arancini (Sicilian orange and rice balls) and potato croquettes like my Neopolitan grandfather made. We tried various topping bruschettas and a pizza margarita from their red-tiled, space-age, imported pizza oven. The short ribs Genovese on a bed of creamy polenta was magnificent, as was the pappardelle with wild boar ragu. I can't stress the authenticity of both cuisine and staff. My only regret is that we're going to need reservations because this place will be very very popular. Magnifico! Grazie and conratulations, Vittorio!

Tonight we went for a late light dinner at Trattoria Da Vittorio and we were very, very pleased! It's wonderful to have this neighborhood restaurant open again-- and it is definitely a place we will come back to repeatedly. The interior looks great-- there's a fantastic new bar area, dark wood paneling and a great warm, modern feel to the space. We had the beet salad and Brussels sprouts and shared one of their pizzas. Everything was delicious-- especially the pizza! The wine list has a very good selection of domestic and Italian wines. The service was incredibly friendly and helpful. The tiramisu was some of the best we've ever had. We even got to meet and talk with Vittorio, the owner, and were able to welcome him personally to the neighborhood! What a delight-- we look forward to trying lunch sometime soon and coming back again for dinner and trying out more of the entrees!

I love this restaurant. The staff is delightful and the food is delicious. I had a yummy caprese salad, light and tasty fried calamari and eye popping nutella calzone. My only problem is that they don't take reservations and it's very loud. My fingers are crossed that eventually they start taking reservations.

Brilliant! Excellent Caprese salad made with the sweetest of heirloom tomatoes and a big basil leaf holding a generous dollop of creamy burrata. Lobster ravioli were delicious. Nice atmosphere, portions were just the right size and the price was very reasonable for the quality of food. My new favorite Italian restaurant.

We live down the road and love to try new restaurants so we had to come. My stars are mainly due to the friendly staff and welcome atmosphere. We did not think the food was that great. We ordered off the specials menu, lobster spaghetti and lamb chops. Firstly, we were put off by the fact that our plates arrived about 3 minutes after we ordered, that is not an exaggeration. It looked pretty good but the spaghetti was dry and the lamb was small and quite fatty. The gnocchi that accompanied the lamb was super stodgy and the sauce did not taste fresh. We were hungry so we ate the small portions pretty quick. The waiter then brought the desert menus (super quick) and banged on about the Nutella calzone, before we looked at the other deserts he started taking the menus back assuming that was what we wanted. I had to explain that we'd like a few minutes to read the menu first. We chose the chocolate mousse dessert (which was nice) and before we new it we were out the door, a little bit dazed and dismayed. Not a great experience for a high speed $80 meal.

I came here with my family for lunch and had a really wonderful experience. The service was excellent and the pizzas were amazing. We love to go to Tony's in North Beach, but I am thrilled to have a place closer to our house for really delicious pizzas. We shared the Margherita and Uovo pizzas and the fried calamari and artichoke appetizers, my kids had the buttered pasta and Mickey Mouse pizza. We can't wait to go back and try everything else. This is really a gem in the neighborhood.

We tried out the Trattoria on their second day of business - so I will start by saying that I expected that there would be kinks to work out and I anticipate that we will return to try again. The restaurant was busy and lively, and I could tell the servers and the kitchen were struggling to keep things moving smoothly. The ambiance was warm, however the lights could have been dimmer. The complimentary bread and olive oil was ok - and they seemed to have run out over the course of our meal. Our appetizers were somewhat disappointing. We tried the salted cod bruscetta and the bread was too hard and the cod somewhat tasteless. The other app we had was a ricotta/ brussel sprout appetizer and this I don't think quite worked. It was basically a small pot of creamy and warm ricotta with a few leaves of brussel sprouts. There was a side of 5-6 homemade croutons (?). So when you served yourself, you got 90% warm goopy cheese and a sliver or 2 of brussel sprout leaf. Very weird. I had the wild boar ragu over paperdelle and this was delicious and an ample portion. My husband had the homemade gnocchi with pesto sauce and he felt his portion was humble. In addition, the presentation was such that it was just a small pile of gnocchi on the plate with no garnish. He said it was light and fluffy - delicious - but just not really enough (and we don't eat very large portions). The servers were attentive and working hard to keep people happy, and I think Vittorio may have served us up our meals which is nice. We did not try the pizza, but there were many being ordered. I think we will wait and give this place one more chance as we think we will really like it once the kinks are worked out.

Excellent food! Some yelpers have complained about some of the foods but I loved them. Their bolonaisse for example, is very traditional and reminded me of the real deal I've had in Italia. Loved it! The capresse was a lovely salty cheese and sweet tomatoes. Excellent service and loved meeting the owner Vittorio. Will be back for more :)

Great service and food. It was packed when we arrived with young kids in tow. Service was a little brusque at first, but attentive, and it warmed up over the course of the meal. They kept the bread and olive oil coming for the kids and helped us out with quarters for parking. The gentleman slaving away at the pizza oven stopped by to ask the kids how they liked the pizza. Complimentary -- and delicious -- tiramisu was bow on it all. Wish it was a little quieter inside.

Great service, love that the food isn't over seasoned. My favorite is the scialatielli pasta with fresh clams, zucchini, cherry tomatoes and the calabrese pizza. I visited Italy recently and the food here is exactly like when I was in the country! Will continue coming back to this place.

If I could, I would give it 10 Stars! What a gem of a restaurant has arrived in our West Portal neighborhood. I hesitate to let the world know, to keep it our little secret. On opening night, though extremely busy, the service and food were stellar in every way! The gnocchi was melt-in-your mouth delicate, the best I've had, equal to any I've eaten in Italy. The short ribs were tender and very flavorful. The arancini were light and delicate and the salad dressed just right. The tiramisu was more than enough to share. The servers were friendly and professional, while being attentive. I will return to try the rest of the menu. (The pizzas were flying out of the special oven and looked fantastic.) If I can't go to Italy soon, I can at least go to Vittorio's!

I really want to like this place. The waiters are fun,the atmosphere is good, the food is not. The food lacked taste , the calamari tasted frozen and the lasagna was dry. It was a bit pricey for a casual neighborhood Italian restaurant.

Food is great here and very friendly service, but a word of warning on the 'Bottomless Mimosa' deal on the weekends. I don't drink but my husband wanted a Mimosa and the waiter very kindly advised us on the 'Bottomless' deal so that's what my husband ordered. The waiter delivered a carafe of the stuff along with 2 filled glasses, so I brought it to his attention that this was a single order of the bottomless deal and that I wasn't having any, he said "he would have brought a 2nd glass anyway", so we thought how generous of them, they expected us to share the deal. My glass remained untouched and my husband didn't even finish the carafe. When we got home and looked at the bill, they had charged us for a 'Bottomless Deal' of $15.00 plus a single glass of Mimosa at $8.00. So we felt cheated and they pulled a fast one on us. We will be returning there since the food is so good but we'll be more careful to examine the bill before payment.

So excited about this excellent addition to our sweet West Portal neighborhood. I thought "Hmmmm... Do we really need another Italian restaurant on this street?" The answer is YES! Who knew? And we're lucky to have it! The food is fresh and delicious and authentically Italian. The atmosphere that Vittorio has created is warm, welcoming, comfortable and just lovely. Giovanni took great care of us. I strongly recommend giving this new gem a go. Yum!!

Loved it and great food for my hubby's Birthday lunch with family. Owner is really nice and made us feel right at home. Welcome to our neighborhood. Read reviews and tweak a bit but for the most part we so enjoyed our experience and will be back. I had the boar pasta....just need a little more meat in that sauce. Good wine selection.

Very busy on a Sunday @ 6:30pm as it was Father's Day - fortunately we were only 2 so we could sit at the counter which turned out to be fun watching pizzas being thrown into their hot (700 degree) pizza oven. For how busy they were we were still given excellent service - bread and olive oil, water brought almost immediately and our order taken within fifteen minutes or so. We got the insalate mista, arancini and pizza margarita - all were very good. We also got a nice bottle of wine which did take a while to get to us (but as I mentioned before they were very busy). One of the best pizzas I've had in a while - the crust was that perfect thin and blistery but not crackery crust with just the right amount of cheese, sauce and basil and a few drops of olive oil.

Looking forward to going back. Loved the brussels sprout bruschetta appetizer, pizza and tiramisu. Minestrone wasn't the best I've had, but seemed strangely as you might expect someone's actual Italian grandmother might make and serve to family. And yes: the owner deserves the benefit of every doubt, for all he is doing to make this a welcoming, heart-warming, satisfying neighborhood place for all. Keep it up, Vittorio!!

Loved eating here. Yes, there may be a crowd outside waiting but that's a good thing. We were offered seats at the counter which I would normally turn down, but am glad we accepted. Such a great vantage point to witness the flow and excitement of a busy kitchen. The star of the night was Giovanni. He was our waiter and the restaurant GM. So pleasant, such attention to detail, bringing more sauce when needed, anticipating additional drinks at just the right moment, a real professional who made our dining experience all the better. He cared about the food . The owner is always wonderful and the west portal community is so happy to have his restaurant along with the kind hostess, pizza craftsman, fine chefs and waiters. And the food was delicious. I had the the risotto which was such a treat. Great to have such a wonderful restaurant in the neighborhood...even better to hear the owner yell out...thank you Seniorita upon leaving.

We tried this restaurant because it has an excellent reputation. We first noticed that the owner and many employees are actually Italian, which makes it feel very authentic. We were seated immediately, but not before being welcomed by just about everyone working on the floor. The server helped us choose, and he did an excellent job. The food was fabulous. I had chicken milanaise with eggplant parm. Best parm I have even had! Melts in your mouth! My husband had seafood risotto. He said it was just okay, not anything special. My sister had noodles with meat sauce; it was homemade and delicious. Let me warn you, though... they will pour you another glass of wine without your asking for it, nor do they ask. When the bill comes, you are charged for all of them. So be careful; they are not pouring to be generous; they're pouring to make more money. I think they should ask first. I want to mention that the owner is a super nice guy, extremely hospitable and attentive. The service from all the staff was excellent!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
